MIncey records a career-high nine tackles in HCC’s win

Ervin Mincey was very active from his left defensive end position in Holmes Community College’s 28-13 home win over Northeast Mississippi Community College. Ervin was tied for the team lead in total tackles with nine. He had six solo stops and three assisted tackles plus he was credited with two tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of six yards and he shared a sack for a loss of two- yards.

Through four games, Holmes is 3-1 and Mincey 16 total tackles- 10 solo’s and six assists.

Holmes drops it’s first game

After winning their first two games of the season with fourth quarter comebacks, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs went on the road and lost their first game of the season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. The Bulldogs fell behind 21-0 in the first quarter, made it 21-7 in the second and they wound up losing 48-14.

Ervin Mincey was credited with with a solo and an assisted tackle. Through three games Ervin has seven tackles and one sack.

It is quite unusual for a defensive lineman to score the only points in a quarter. However, that is exactly what Ervin Mincey did in the second quarter of Holmes Community College’s 25-23 win at Jones Junior College. With 7:44 to play before the half Jones had the ball at it’s own three-yard line and that is when Mincey used his quickness and speed to drive in to the backfield and tackle the quarterback in the end zone for a safety. Ervin also had another tackle for a loss for minus two-yards and finished with five tackles- three solo stops and two assists from his left defensive end position. He also forced a fumble and recovered it.

Through two games he has seven tackles- 3 solo’s and four assists.

For the second straight week Holmes scored late in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. A Jesse Wilson 34-yard TD pass to Demarcus Johnson, with seven seconds remaining, allowed the Bulldogs to improve to 2-0.

Mincey makes his JUCO debut

Ervin, who originally signed with Division 2 West Georgia, is following in Jamar Smith’s footsteps by playing at Holmes Community College in Mississippi. Ervin is no longer number 87. His new number for the junior college Bulldogs is 94.

Ervin played his first college game on Thursday, August, 30 and Holmes, thanks to a 40-yard field goal by Connor McKay with 34 seconds remaining in the game, pulled out a 29-28 home win over Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Mincey came off the bench and assisted on two tackles from his defensive line position. Even though he didn’t start, Ervin played most of the downs at left defensive end in the second half.
