The Lyons Mite Boys battled back through the loser’s bracket to take the 58th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament after two games, beating Reidsville 13-10 and 9-4.
Lyons started out the tournament beating Evans County 15-4. They then faced off against Metter and were put into the loser’s bracket by one run, losing 5-4. The Lyons Mite boys then knew they had to battle back and they did. They beat Long County 13-4, Appling County 16-8, and Metter 8-5 to get into the Championship game of their division.
In game one, Reidsville was the home team. Lyons and Reidsville each scored two in the first. Neither team scored in the second and each team scored another two runs in the third making it four all. Lyons then scored four in the fourth and Reidsville scored five taking the lead 9-8. Lyons then took the lead in the fifth scoring two and Reidsville was unable to score any in the bottom of the fifth. Lyons then scored three in the top of the sixth and Reidsville answered with one and the game ended 13-10. This win for Lyons sent it to the If-Necessary Game.
In game two, Lyons was the home team. This game defensively for Lyons was different. The Lyons team was making plays all over the field. The first went scoreless and the top of the second was scoreless for Reidsville. In the bottom of the second, Lyons put four on the board. Reidsville answered with three in the top of the third and Lyons scored none in the bottom of the inning. In the fourth, Reidsville scored one and Lyons scored three. In the fifth, Lyons put two up and eventually took the game and the title winning 9-4.
Up next for this Lyons Mite Boys team is the GRPA District Tournament that will be held in Lyons at Partin Park, June 8 – June 10. The Mite Boys’ District Games will be broadcasted live on WLYU Y-101 100.9 FM.
