In the final game of the three versus the East Laurens Falcons, the Bulldogs did not score as many as in the previous two but did win the game 7-1 and took the sweep against the Falcons.
East Laurens held a lead until the bottom of the second. The Falcons scored a run in the top of the first and TCHS tied it up in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice grounder by Sophomore Wil Watts. The game was scoreless in the third and after three complete innings it was 1-1.
TCHS scored three in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Brantley Upshaw reached on a single and Watts had a double that scored Upshaw and also himself on some Falcon defensive errors. Senior Alex Gordy reached on a double and Senior Chandler Lynn drove him up on an RBI. After the fourth it was 4-1 TCHS.
The Bulldogs scored another two in the bottom of the fifth. Senior Gray Stephens opened up reaching on a single Junior Jason Dukes drove him on an RBI double which he turned into a triple. Upshaw scored Dukes on an RBI single. The score was 6-1 TCHS.
The Bulldogs scored another in the seventh when Dukes scored Lynn (reached on a walk) on an error.
Junior Logan Knight pitched for the Bulldogs. He pitched five complete innings, giving up three hits and an unearned run. He gave up a walk and had six strikeouts. He leads the team’s pitching staff in strikeouts with a total of 48.
Sophomore Lucas O’Conner and Junior Caden VerSluis each pitched an inning. O’Conner had two strikeouts and VerSluis had one.
The Bulldogs are now tied with the Swainsboro Tigers at 4th in the region with a record of 5-7 and 13-11 overall.
The Bulldogs and the Tigers will face off in three games to determine which team is going to the GHSA Baseball State Playoffs. Which ever team wins two games of the three will continue into the post season. Game 1 will be played on Tuesday, April 20 at 5:30 in Swainsboro.
