In the final game of the series versus Vidalia, the Toombs County High School baseball team fell short by quite a lot. Vidalia swept the Bulldogs winning game three 17-2 in five innings.
The first two innings of baseball were close too perfect for TCHS. In the first inning, pitcher Brantley Upshaw had a three up three down inning on strikeouts. In the bottom of the inning, TCHS scored a run. Senior Chandler Lynn reached on a walk and Freshman Trayvon Harris had a RBI single scoring Lynn. The Bulldogs were leading 1-0 going into the second.
In the second, Vidalia scored two on three walks and two singles. A walk brought in a run and left fielder Michael Blount had a RBI. TCHS was unable to score in the bottom of the inning. It was 2-1 Vidalia.
In the third, TCHS yielded 11 runs. Vidalia had Bryson Whited lead off with a homer. Ty Dalley reached on an error. Hughes Graham was walked. Then, Vidalia began small balling TCHS and it worked. Three Vidalia batters reached on errors and each time it scored runs. The next two batters reached on walks. With one out, Whited was back to the plate a smacked a two run RBI single. Dalley also had a RBI single to follow. Graham reached on a hit and Walker Moncus had a two run RBI double. It was 13-1 after the third.
Vidalia scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth. In the fourth, Landry Mead had a two run homer. In the fifth, Ben Beverly entered the game for the Indians and also hit a two run homer.
Offensively for TCHS, Junior Jason Dukes went 2-2.
TCHS now sits at #10 in Region 2. In Region 2 AA play TCHS’s record is 2-4 and overall the Bulldogs are 10-8.
Vidalia sits at #1 with a 6-0 region record and a 15-4 overall record.
TCHS will start their next series against the Bacon County Raiders with two games on the road and one at home. On Tuesday, April 6 TCHS will travel to Alma for a first pitch start time of 6. The game will be live on Y-101 and streamed on our YouTube page.
