In his first varsity start for the Toombs County Bulldogs, Logan Knight blanked the visiting Portal Panthers for four innings and only a one-out single in the fifth ining kept him from debuting with a no-hitter. On offense the Bulldogs scored five runs in the first and four in both the third and the fourth innings in their 13-0 five inning victory. Toombs County is 1-1.
Knight opened the game inducing a fly ball to left fielder Chase Muselman, a strike out looking and a ground ball to second baseman Alex Gordy.
Logan struck out the first two batters of the second inning swining and then issued a walk on a 3-1 pitch and he finished the frame with a called strike three.
The third inning was a breeze for the lefty. He struck the first two Panthers swinging and looking and got the third out on a pop up to Gordy.
Four Portal hitters came to the plate in the fourth inning with one reaching on an error. Knight struck out one Panther swinging, Foster Jones caught a fly ball in right and Logan ended the inning with a strike out looking.
The fifth inning began with a ground ball to Dawson Brantley at second. The next Panther to come to the plate was Walker Bowen and on a 1-1 pitch he stroked the Portal’s only hit sending the ball into left field. A four pitch walk followed and Knight rebounded- with runners on first and third- with a strike out swinging and a 5-4 force play- third baseman Bryson Stanley to Brantley at second.
The middle and bottom part of the Bulldog batting order provided the offense in this non-region game. Gordy went 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI, catcher Jason Dukes 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI, Foster Jones 1-for-1 with a double, 2 RBI and 1 run scored, Knight 1-for-1 with 3 RBI and Stanley 1-2 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.
