6th Grade Football Championship- Jeff Davis 16, Toombs County 12

For the third straight season the Toombs County and Jeff Davis 6th grade teams met for the league championship. The last two years Toombs won by one and nine points. In this third championship- in Hazlehurst- Jeff Davis held on to a 16-12 victory.

Jeff Davis scored the first touchdown on a 54-yard punt return with 5:23 to play in the second quarter. JD made a 2-point kick to take an 8-0 lead. Davin Johnson picked up a Toombs County fumble and ran the ball into the end zone for a touchdown. The Bullpups conversion run failed as Toombs trailed 8-6 with 4:19 to play in the third quarter.

With 3:42 to play in the fourth quarter Jeff Davis completed a long pass for a TD. The quarterback threw a lateral pass to his receiver and he threw a perfect pass to his teammate for six. Once again JD kicked the ball through the uprights to open up a 16-6 advantage with 3:42 left in the game.

The Yellow Jackets tried an onside kick which Mike Polke scooped up and ran into the end zone for a touchdown with 3:31 to play in the game to cut the JD lead to 16-12.
