Bulldogs roll up a school record 62 points in their shutout win over Bryan County

The 2019 Toombs County Bulldogs eclipsed the 2001 Dawgs in single game scoring by shutting out Bryan County 62-0 on homecoming night at Booster Stadium. The 62 points surpassed the 59 scored in Booster Stadium back in 2001 when Toombs defeated Jenkins County (59-34) in the final game of the regular season. Y-101 play-by-play

Julian Marion-Vitale boots the ball in the end zone

The Bulldogs formula for scoring their first 21 points in less than six minutes of the opening quarter involved all three phases of the game. First sophomore kicker Julian Marion-Vitale kicked the ball in the end zone and then the defense got a three and out stop giving the offense a short field.

“We got some turnovers, it was real exciting,” head coach Richie Marsh said. “We knocked a ball loose and Tyler Heath got a big interception. Brannon ran the ball well. D.J. ran the ball well. Octavious ran the ball well and Cam ran the ball well. The offensive line did a good job.”

Brannon Usher scores his first touchdown

Brannon Usher, who led the Bulldogs in rushing with 23 carries for 141 yards, scored his first of three TD’s on a 6-yard run with 7:34 to play in the first quarter.

“I got my read keys off my lineman. I go off them,” Usher said. “The holes were big and I had good vision. All I saw was green grass when I came out of there. We finished strong and we got the win.”

Tyler Heath intercepted a pass and ran the ball into the end zone from the Raider 15-yard line. Marion-Vitale’s extra point pushed the Dawg lead to 21-0 with 6:35 to play in the first quarter.

“I was just reading the quarterback’s elbow and he told me right where the ball was going,” Heath said. “I just picked it off. There were no defenders around and I just took it into the end zone.”

Usher finished a drive in which he did most of the work with a 2-yard TD run to make it 28-0 TCHS with 3:49 to play in the first half.

Brannon scored his third and final touchdown with 9:09 to play in the third quarter to extend the Bulldog lead to 35-0.

“We did all the little things,” offensive lineman Josh Jackson said. “I need to work on getting my head across and running my feet a little more.” The senior was also impressed with the way that Usher ran the ball. “Brannon used his vision and he was patient and he let us get our blocks in.”

Octavious Roberts scores a TD

Octavious Roberts scored back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 16 and 15-yards with 11:13 and 9:16 to play.

QB Gavin Hall scores his first of two touchdowns
