Mincey scores the only points in the second quarter

Ervin Mincey takes down the QB for a safety

It is quite unusual for a defensive lineman to score the only points in a quarter. However, that is exactly what Ervin Mincey did in the second quarter of Holmes Community College’s 25-23 win at Jones Junior College. With 7:44 to play before the half Jones had the ball at it’s own three-yard line and that is when Mincey used his quickness and speed to drive in to the backfield and tackle the quarterback in the end zone for a safety. Ervin also had another tackle for a loss for minus two-yards and finished with five tackles- three solo stops and two assists from his left defensive end position.

Through two games he has seven tackles- 3 solo’s and four assists.

Tinoco goes 7-for-7 on extra points

In his first game as a Benedict Tiger, place kicker Rig Tinoco did not have a lot of business. He kicked both of his extra points and kicked off three times. In his second game, at Johnson C. Smith, Tinoco was very busy. He made all seven of his PAT’s in the Tigers 42-14 victory. Rig kicked off seven times and missed a 41-yard field goal, which hooked off to the left, with 2:30 to play in the game.

Tinoco also successfully executed an onside kick in the second quarter.

Up next 1-1 Benedict will travel to Fayetteville, North Carolina to play Fayetteville State University on September 15 at 4 p.m.
