The Raiders scored their first two TD’s in the first 4 minutes and twenty seconds of the game. Marquell Brown (5-6 155 junior) ended a 4-play, 24-yard drive with a six-yard TD run, just 94 seconds in to the game. Omar Burroughs intercepted a Bulldog pass and returned it for a 70-yard pick six with 7:40 to play in the first quarter.

The first drive was aided by a 44-yard kickoff return by Jordan Grant (5-10 180 pound senior) and a 19-yard first down pass from sophomore quarterback Spencer Robicheaux to Nate Moon (5-10 165 junior).

The Bulldogs started off their offensive night with a five-yard penalty for illegal procedure. Sophomore quarterback Trey Cloud completed a 13-yard pass to Chandler Lynn. Those two would team up eight times for 122-yards and Cloud wound up completing 14-of-33 passes for 204-yards with one TD with two interceptions.

On the next two plays the Dawgs gained a rushing yard and lost one and they punted on fourth down and two. However, the Raiders were penalized five-yards giving the Bulldogs a first down. Cloud threw a short pass and Ashlee Ashley turned it in to a seven-yard gain and then Cloud threw a deep ball, a little to high for a leaping Lynn. The ball deflected off Jacob Jablonski hands high in to the air and it hung up long enough for Burroughs to run from eight-yards away and snag the loose ball at SC 30. The speedy Raider raced toward the Bulldog sideline with two blockers and they managed to take out three Bulldogs. Next Burroughs ran toward the center of the field and with two Dawgs chasing and scored Savannah Christian’s first defensive touchdown of the season.

The Bulldogs shutout the Raiders for the rest of the first quarter. However, they constantly had the long 80-yard field because of the powerful right leg of Noah Chumley. His second kickoff of the night sailed out of the complex. Toombs County reeled off three first downs. Sophomore D.J. Mincey ran for 12-yards and a first down and then on the second play of the 37-yard drive, Cloud and Lynn combined to pick up 12 more yards and a second first down.

Next Mincey took a handoff and was belted two-yards behind the line of scrimmage, but he didn’t go down. He bounced outside to the Bulldog sideline and ran for 37-yards. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were called for holding on the play. After an incomplete pass Cloud hit Lynn once again on a third down and 22 play and the throw and catch netted 23-yards and a first down at the Raider 43. That’s where the drive bogged down with a no-gain run and two incomplete pass. On fourth down Cole Graham punted the ball 25-yards down to the SC 18.

Savannah Christian collected two first downs on the Raiders’ final first quarter possession and they thought they had a third, but a penalty negated a first down run. On fourth down a 10 Chumley punted the ball 34-yards to the TCHS 23.

Toombs ran three positive plays to end the first quarter. Cloud ran four two-yards, Owens broke five tackles and gained 12 and a Dawg first down and Cloud threw a 35-yard pass to Lynn for a first down to the Raider 28.

Early in the second quarter, on third down and eight, Cloud dropped back to pass and with the pressure coming he took off and ran for 12-yards and a first down. On the next play he completed a seven-yard pass to Ashley. After a one-yard run by Owens and an incomplete pass Cloud was tackled for a three-yard loss on fourth down and two from the six.

On a second down play, from the Raider nine-yard line, Toombs County’s Brannon Usher intercepted a pass that may have been deflected by a Dawg lineman and returned it to the three. On the first offensive play sophomore Mincey scored on a three-yard run. He cut right and then back to the left to score his third rushing TD of the season. Rafael Perez kicked the PAT to cut the Savannah Christian lead to 14-7 with 8:09 to play in the second quarter.

The Raiders answered TCHS with two quick touchdowns in 2 minutes and nine seconds. Brown finished a five-play, 57-yard drive with a 20-yard run on the jet sweep play. He broke an ankle tackle at the nine-yard line.

Another Chumley kick which cleared the fence around the field stuck the Dawgs back at their 20. After a one-yard run by Owens, Cloud tried to hit Graham with a short pass to his right. Burroughs jumped the pattern and picked the ball at the 18 and ran it in to the end zone without a Bulldog touching him. A Chumley PAT pushed the Raider lead to 28-7 with six minutes left in the first half.

Chumley finally came up short of the end zone on a kickoff which Mincey caught at the five-yard line and returned 25-yards to the 30. Owens ran for three and four-yards and SC was offsides to net a Bulldog first down.Owens ran for nine and then lost one-yard and the Bulldogs turned a third down and two situation in to a third and 12 with back-to-back illegal procedure flags. A one-yard run by Owens forced TCHS to punt and Graham’s 28-yard punt was returned 14-yards to the Raider 46.

Grant caught a 13-yard pass for a first down and two plays later Burrough’s grabbed a 14-yard throw from Robicheaux for another first down. The Bulldogs were called for pass interference in the left corner of the end zone moving the ball to the TCHS six. Grant scored the touchdown on a five-yard run in which he broke a tackle at the two. The six-play, 54-yard drive scored points with just 24 seconds remaining in the half to give Savannah Christian a 35-0 lead at the break.

At half the Raiders honored former head coach Donald Chumley, Noah’s father. Chumley won 116 games and lost only 32. He led his Raiders to a state championship in 2011 and a runner-up finish in 2009 in Class A. He has taken the last two seasons off. However, the former Georgia Bulldog is seeking to return to sideline, maybe next season.

The Bulldogs opened the second half with a six play, 69-yard scoring drive. Mincey returned the kickoff from the three to the 31-yard line for a net of 28. On second and 10, Mincey took the handoff and ran a sweep play for 14-yards and a Toombs first down and then he gained five more. Cloud rolled to his left and connected with Graham for a 14-yard gain and a first down. On second down Cloud threw the ball to Lynn in the end zone. A cornerback and safety were covering the play and one was called for pass interference which advanced the ball down to the Raider 21. The Dawgs were flagged for holding which moved the ball back to the 31. So, on first down and 20, Mincey got the call and he squirted through a hole at the line of scrimmage and then cut to his right. By the time he got to the 10-yard line two Raiders came from different angles. D.J. broke the combo tackle and scored the 31-yard touchdown. Perez took care of the extra point and now Toombs County trailed 35-14 with 9:18 to play in the third quarter.

Once again Savannah Christian came back with a quick scoring drive- five plays, 69-yards.The Raiders picked up a first down on an 11-yard completion and a five-yard run and Brown scored his third touchdown on a 38-yard run. With 7:30 to play in the third quarter Savannah Christian was on top 42-14.

The Bulldogs started their next drive at their 18-yard line and in 4 minutes and 29 seconds they reeled off 11-plays. Cloud completed five-of-nine passes on that possession. On first down Cloud fired a pass to Lynn for 11-yards and a first down. On third down and six he completed a slant pass to Ashley and that turned in to a 32-yard pick up and a first down. Cloud picked up 12-yards on a run and a Dawg first down. Trey was tackled behind the line of scrimmage for a three-yard loss. Then on third down and 11, Savannah Christian was flagged for pass interference and now the ball was at the Raider 12. Two five-yard Bulldog penalties placed the football at the SC 22. Cloud threw a 10-yard completion to Tyquan Toby. After an incomplete pass the situation for TCHS was third and 10 from the 12. Cloud, despite pressure from his left, stayed in the pocket and threw a pass which sophomore J.D. Myers was able to catch in the end zone for his first varsity touchdown.

Florez made it a perfect 10-for-10 on extra points this season to cut the Savannah Christian lead to 42-21 with 3:01 left on the third quarter clock.

Savannah Christian scored the final points of the game seven seconds in to the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs tried an onside kick which the Raiders recovered at their 46. On fourth down and one Grant turned a short pass in to a 34-yard gain. On third down and six from the Dawg four, Moon went in motion to the right of the formation and Robicheaux threw to him near the goal line. Two Bulldogs hit Moon, but the ball crossed the goal line for a four-yard TD pass with 11:53 to play in the fourth to make it 49-21 Raiders with the Chumley PAT.

The Bulldogs had three more possessions in the final quarter. They went three and out and punted. Burroughs fumbled Graham’s 22-yard boot and Usher recovered the ball at the TCHS 47. The Bulldogs picked up their final first down on a second and 10 completion to Lynn for a gain of 21-yards.That drive ended with an incomplete pass at the Raider 19.

On their final possession Mincey and Cloud each gained five-yards running the football.
