Beasley throws three scoreless innings in relief

Jeremy Beasley pitches in Pensacola

Jeremy Beasley has proven consistently in his professional baseball career that it doesn’t matter if he is pitching as a starter of a reliever- just give him the ball and he will get the job done. Since joining the Mobile BayBears of the Southern League, the quick working right-hander has been used primarily as a starter. However, in his last two appearances he has come out of the bullpen. As a starter he is 2-3 with a 2.80 ERA. In 35.1 innings he has struck out 33 batters and walked 10 while allowing 29 hits. His WHIP is 1.10. As a reliever he is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP. Jeremy has pitched in relief six innings and allowed only two hits with four strikeouts and three walks. As a starter teams are hitting .225 against and .111 as a reliever.

On August 27 Beasley came out of the bullpen and pitched three innings of one-hit, shutout ball against Pensacola Blue Wahoos- the best team in the Southern Division. The only hit he allowed was a leadoff single in the seventh and that Blue Wahoo didn’t budge an inch after reaching first base. Jeremy struck out two batters and walked one as he dropped his Southern League ERA from 2.82 to 2.61- the lowest on the BayBears’ pitching staff. His WHIP is 1.06- the third lowest on current Mobile staff.

For the entire summer, in three different leagues, Jeremy has a 2.73 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He has pitched 108.2 innings and has struck out 104 batters and walked 31. He is 6-7 with one save and teams are batting .238 against him.

Jeremy tossed three more full scoreless innings. This season 78-of-his-103 full innings have been shutout frames- that’s 75.7% and for his pro career it is 76.9% (103-of-134).

Jeremy Beasley strikes out the first batter he faced

Beasley entered the game in the bottom of the sixth with Pensacola leading 2-0 on a pair of first inning runs. He threw three straight off speed pitches to Aristides Aquino. The right-handed hitter, from the Dominican Republic, looked at the first pitch and then whiffed on the next two. It took six pitches to strikeout Shed Long on a 3-2 offering. Beasley ended his three-up, three-down with a ground ball out to short.

Taylor Featherston had the only hit off Beasley. The fifth round pick out of TCU led of the seventh inning hitting a 2-2 pitch in between the center and right fielder. Jeremy induced three more fly balls for three outs to right, left and right.

In the eighth inning Beasley faced only three batters. T.J. Friedl led off with a fly ball to right. Mitch Nay walked on a 3-1 pitch and then five pitches later Aquino grounded in to a 5-4-3 double play.

The BayBears were unable to come back from their slim deficit and they lost 2-0.
