D.R. Meadows smashes a double & reaches base 3 times as Chipola earns a chance to defend it’s national championship

Starting for the first time in the FCSAA Tournament, in the if necessary championship game, D.R. Meadows played left field and batted ninth for the Chipola Indians. D.R. went 1-for-2 reaching base three times highlighted by his first extra-base hit of his freshman season, an opposite field double to right in the second inning. He drew third inning walk and was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. Meadows also lined out to right in the sixth forcing Jose Cadenas to make the catch, coming in, on his knees. Max Guzman, the FCSAA Tourney’s MVP, hit a three-run homer to left in the first inning and the Pitcher of the Tournament, Phillip Sanderson, threw his second complete game of the  week. He tossed nine innings of three-hit shutout ball with six strikeouts and two walks as Chipola blanked Hillsborough 5-0 to earn a chance to defend it’s national championship at the NJCAA National Tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado from May 26-June 1 or 2.

D.R. went 2-for-3 in the state tournament including his ninth inning walk-off game-winning hit in the tourney’s only one-run game- a 9-8 victory over Sante Fe College.
