Beasley deals 4 innings of one-run baseball and once again is denied a win

For the first time, in his fourth outing for the Burlington Bees, Jeremy Beasley pitched out of the bullpen. He started his first three games of the season and took a loss with two no decisions. In a home game against the Dayton Dragons Beasley entered the game in the top of the fourth inning with his Bees leading 5-2 and when he was done, after the top of the seventh, Burlington had an 8-3 lead. Unfortunately, the rest of the Bees pen didn’t pitch as well as Jeremy. The Dragons rallied and tied the game and sent it to extra innings and won it 10-8.

The right-hander threw four innings and allowed three hits and one earned run with four strikeouts and two walks. Before yielding his fourth earned run, of the season, Beasley extended his shutout streak to 10 1/3 innings. He tossed 14 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings in rookie ball in 2017. He has thrown shutout frames in 10 of his 14 innings this season.

Since becoming a pro, Beasley has thrown 35 full innings in which he has not allowed an earned run. During this span he pitched 10 innings in which he has allowed at least one earned run. In the Arizona League four of his five full innings were scoreless and with the Orem Owlz 25 of his 31 full innings did not include an earned run.

Beasley’s ERA dropped from 2.70 to 2.57 and he has allowed 11 hits with 13 strikeouts and two walks. Opponents are hitting .208 against Jeremy this season and .207 for his career.

Jeremy Beasley 2018

Jeremy opened his stint walking his first batter of the season in his eleventh inning of work. Hendrick Clementina walked on a 3-1 pitch. Beasley jumped in front 0-2 on the next hitter and induced a 6-4-3 double play. Jeremy also had an 0-2 count on Leandro Santana and on a 2-2 pitch he ended the inning with a strikeout.

Beasley retired Dayton three up, three down in the fifth. On a 3-2 pitch he got a pop up to short, on a 2-2 he induced a ground out to third and then he struck out Michael Beltre on an 0-2 pitch swinging.

Dayton opened the sixth inning with a single to center on a 1-0 pitch and there was also a walk in the frame. Jeremy thought he had struck out Clementina on a  2-2 and then walked him on a 3-2 pitch. Jeremy stuck out a batter swinging on a 1-2. The Bees got a second out, on a fielders choice, on a pop up to center of the diamond which nobody caught. However, the third baseman picked up the ball and threw to second for an out. A liner to left fielder Tori Hunter Jr. ended the frame.

Jeremy opened the seventh inning with a three pitch strikeout- the first and third pitches were called strikes. He fell behind 2-0 and threw a pitch which was pop upped to short. Jose Garcia hit a 2-2 pitch to center for a base hit. Beltre dribbled a ball to third and the throw to first was late. A throw back to third base got away and a run scored. Originally, it was scored an unearned run. However, Beasley threw a wild pitch and the scoring changed to an earned run. A 1-1 pitch was hit to center and it was caught and that ended Jeremy’s night.
