Meet Ryan Lewis- Toombs County’s new Bulldog basketball coach

TCHS head basketball coach Ryan Lewis

If you are a junior Toombs County Bulldog basketball player like Karis Harden or Tyrese Lewis, Ryan Lewis will be your third head coach since you arrived at the new school.

Former Dawg Chuck Hill coached the Bulldogs in the 2015-16 season and then he took an assistant coaching job at West Laurens. He is now the head coach of the Raiders. Laberton Sims left Tift County, where he was an assistant, and coached the Dawgs in 2016-17. But, Sims left Lyons for the head coaching  job at Randolph Clay. Now Lewis, who originally was hired to assist Sims, is the head coach.

Lewis has prior head coaching experience at Southeast Bulloch where he coached the Lady Yellow Jackets for three seasons. He left Statesboro High School, after five years as an assistant, for Lyons.

Coach Lewis takes over a team that went 16-11 last season. However, D.R. Meadows, Jalen Mobley and L.J. Sims were all seniors and they averaged a combined 44 points per game. Lewis is the leading returning scorer at 6 points per game. Alex Hunt and TyQuan Toby have joined the team this summer and both were able to score on the inside in a home scrimmage game against Bryan County.
