Brothers Tristan and Ricardo qualify for the GHSA State Track Meet

Brothers Tristan Lynn and Ricardo Santana are wrapping up an amazing sports school year. With their success at the GHSA State Sectional Track Meet in Fitzgerald the two will end up competing for state championships in a combined four different sports.

In the fall the two, along with younger brother Martin Santana, led the TCHS cross country team to a Region 2 championship and a third place finish in the GHSA State Meet in Carrollton.

Ricardo was an area, sectional and state champion in wrestling. Currently Tristan and Ricardo are involved in two sports and both still have a shot at winning a state championship.

On April 29 Tristan and Ricardo qualified for the GHSA State Track meet with excellent finishes at the GHSA State Sectionals in Fitzgerald (Regions 1,2,3 and 4)

Tristan finished first in the 800 meter race in 2:01.05. Fitzgerald’s Ronald Garcia was second and he was 6.73 seconds behind Tristan.

Tristan also qualified in the 1600 meters with a third place finish in 4:48.24.

Ricardo finished fifth in the 3200 meter race in 10:41.25

To qualify for state requires an 8th place or better finish and two Lady Bulldogs just barely missed earning a trip to Albany on May 13.

Divoria Gaffney placed ninth in the 100 meters and was just .04 seconds out of eighth. LiliAnn Pittman finished ninth in the shot put and she was only an inch out of eighth.

Chrystal Morales finished 10th in the 3200 meters in 15:37.54 and the Lady Bulldog 4 X 400 team placed 12th.

The brothers also excelled at the Region 2 meet. Tristan won the 800 meter race  by eight seconds in 2:01.88 and he dominated the 1600 meter race winning by 20 seconds in 4:40.98. Ricardo won the 3200 meter race by 22 seconds in 10:48.33.

At the same time the brothers are participating in track they are also competing for a state championship in soccer. Tristan is the Bulldogs’s starting goal keeper. This the first season he has played soccer on the high school level after three season playing infield for the baseball team.

The Bulldogs won the Region 2 championship with a 4-1 win over Bryan County and they opened the GHSA State Tournament with a 3-1 home win over Westside-Augusta. Up next for the Bulldogs is a Wednesday (May 3) 6 p.m. home match against Putnam County in the Sweet 16.

Tristan has prior experience competing in the GHSA State Sectionals and State Meet. Last year Tristan finished 13th in the 3A 1600 meter race in 4:42.80. In 2015 he placed 14th in the 3A 3200 meter race in  10:59.39.

In the 2015 state sectional Tristan ran a 10:44.43 and placed seventh in the 3200 meter race. He also ran the 1600 meter race and finished eleventh in a time of 5:00.37, but did not qualify for state.

At the Region 1 AAA Track Meet in Brooklet, Lynn finished second in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:00.37 and he also qualified for sectionals in the 3200 meters in a time of 10:58.68. In addition to running track, during that spring he also played shortstop and pitched for the Toombs County Junior Varsity baseball team.
