The Region 2 champion Toombs County Bulldogs opened up the GHSA AA State Tournament with a 3-1 home win over Westside-Augusta. The 13-2 Dawgs will play host to Putnam County on Wednesday, May 3. Putnam (14-2-2) is the number two team from Region 8. The Eagles shutout Therrell 8-0 in the opening round.
Team captain Jose Cerras opened the scoring with a goal in which he beat the keeper, in a one-on-one situation, with a shot to the right.
Isai Sanchez scored the next two Toombs County goals in a span of just minutes as the Bulldogs opened up a 3-0 lead at half.
