Five days after Thanksgiving, the Toombs County Bulldogs pulled out a four point win at Long County. Eight days away from Christmas, the Blue Tide hit some big shots late in the fourth quarter to take a 66-60 victory in Lyons.
Coming off a 35 point home loss to Bacon County, the Bulldogs looked more like themselves against Long. L.J. Sims scored 9 of his 17 in the first quarter as TCHS opened up a 19-10 lead. D.R. Meadows scored half of his 10 in the first period swishing one of his two 3-pointers. At Long County both seniors scored 24.
The Dawgs led 32-31 at half, but trailed 47-44 going to the fourth quarter. Toombs had a lead in the fourth quarter, but Long rallied thanks to the shooting of Henry Blair (21 points) and Ryheim Izzard (13 points). They both scored five points in the period. Izzard nailed a big 3-ball and Blair sank 3-of-4 at the line and 7-of-8 in the game. Long County shot the free shots like an NBA team making 24-of-29 (83%) while the Bulldogs shot 15% over their season average making 14-of-20 (70%).
Sims made 4-of-6 at the line in the fourth quarter and 8-of-10 in the game and Ermias Fisser scored 6 of his 11 points in the fourth period. Jalen Mobley sank three 3-pointers and scored 11 points, Tyrese Lewis chipped in 7 and Alex Blount 4.
Lady Bulldogs open up 10 point 2nd half lead, but they lose by 16
The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs played two strong quarters against Long County. However, missing starter JoAnn Gomez, who was on the bench and injured, TCHS wore down in the third quarter and lost 60-44.
Toombs scored 10 points in the first quarter and 15 in the second while yielding only nine and eight to open up a 25-17 lead at half. The Lady Dawgs pushed the lead to 10 early in the third quarter and then the Tide turned. Long ended up outscoring TCHS 29-6 in that decisive period.
Jocelyn Walker swished two 3-pointers in both the first and fourth quarters and led Toombs with 15 points. Dominique Jones dropped in a 3-ball and scored 9, Shakevia Knight also had 9, Christine Mobley 7 and Diamond Logan 4.
