The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs stopped a five game losing streak with their first Region 2 victory of the season. The starting five scored all the points in a 45-29 home win over Bacon County. TCHS improves to 3-5 and 1-3 in Region 2.
TCHS opened up a 15-6 lead after the opening quarter. Jocelyn Walker (7 points) sank two 3-balls in the the first period and JoAnn Gomez (12 points) scored a bucket and made two free throws. The Lady Bulldogs won the second quarter 11-8 with Christine Mobley scoring 4 of 6 points in that period.
In the third quarter JoAnn Gomez scored half of her 12 points and in the fourth quarter Shakevia Knight hit three free throws and she made six in the game as she also scored 12 points. Dominique Jones was 5-for-8 at the line and she made a third quarter 3-ball and scored 8 points.
Bulldogs struggle against Bacon County
Coming off a 36 point victory at Bryan County the Toombs County Bulldogs suffered their biggest defeat of the season. The Bacon County Raiders jumped to a 28-10 lead after the first quarter and with their pressure defense and numerous drives to the hoop they beat the Dawgs 72-37. The Bulldogs are 6-3 overall and 1-3 in the region. The Raiders are 4-2 and 1-2.
L.J. Sims lead TCHS with 11 points, D.R. Meadows made three 3-pointers and scored 9, Drekari Jones had 6, Ermias Fisser 3,and Montrey Williams, Tyrese Lewis, Karis Harden and Tivean Ashley 2 each.
Trace Stewart was unstoppable on this night. The 6-1 Bacon County senior kept driving to the bucket and he scored 15 points in the first quarter and although his scoring pace slowed after that period he still wound up with 29 points.
