Dawgs bring it at Bryan and win their first region game, Lady Bulldogs are back at full strength in loss

Coming off a 10-point home Region 2 loss to Jeff Davis the Toombs County Bulldogs used a different mix of players and a highly motivated bunch of Bulldogs pulled away to a 76-40 region victory at Bryan County. The Dawgs were playing without two starters and one key reserve who were on the bench, but not dressed out. The Dawgs are 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the region. Toombs County Basketball Page

L.J. Sims (16 points) scored 12 first quarter points as the Bulldogs took a 17-13 lead after the first quarter. After a coast-to-coast drive for two early second quarter points L.J. picked up his second foul and he spent the rest of the first half on the bench. German exchange student Ermias Fisser helped pick up the scoring slack with Sims on thepine. The point guard hit two 3-pointers including one with three second left on the second quarter clock as TCHS built up a 40-23 lead at half. Fisser sank two more 3-balls in the second half and scored a career high 14 points.

D,R, Meadows, who also scored 14 points, dropped in six straight free throws in the first half and swished a 3-pointer i n the second. Freshman Drekari Jones came off the bench and hit a 3-pointer and scored a career high 10 points. Jalen Mobley added 7 points, Montrey Williams, Marquis Scott and Jaquail Boyd each scored 4, Julius Sims had 2 and Tivean Ashley 1.

After playing nearly 2 1/2 games without two starters- Dominique Jones and JoAnn Gomez- who each picked up two technical fouls at Metter, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs were at full strength in Pembroke. The Lady Dawgs scored the first nine points of the game. However, they didn’t score any more in the that quarter and they only scored nine more in the second quarter plus eight in the third and seven in the fourth in a 60-33 loss.

Bryan County led 21-18 at half and the Lady Redskins outscored TCHS 39-15 in the second half. The Lady Bulldogs are 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the region.

Jones made two 3-pointers and led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points, Christine Mobley tossed in 6, Shakevia Knight 5, Jocelyn Walker 4, JoAnn Gomez 3 and Diamond Logan 1.
