The Toombs County High School basketball teams opened up their home schedule of 11 dates with a pair of double-digit wins. The Lady Bulldogs outscored Jenkins County 13-2 in the first quarter in route to a 39-26 decision over Jenkins County and then L.J. Sims scored 10 of his career high 31 points in the first quarter in the Bulldogs 74-58 win over Jenkins County. Toombs County Basketball Page
The 2-0 Lady Bulldogs were outscored in the even quarters 10-9 in the second and 10-7 in the fourth, but they ruled in the odd periods taking the third quarter 10-4. Jocelyn Walker led TCHS with 11 points, Christine Mobley added 10, Shakevia Knight 6 and Joann Gomez, Dominique Jones and Diamond Logan each scored 4. The Lady Bulldogs were 11-for-20 (55%) at the free throw line.
The Bulldog inside players, Sims and Alex Blount, both stayed out of foul trouble and hit double figures with Blount scoring 10. Sims was 11-for-17 at the line and Blount 2-for-2.
D.R. Meadows led the perimeter shooters with 17 points. The senior scored seven points in the first quarter and hit two 3-balls. Jalen Mobley nailed three 3-balls and scored 10 points. Tyrese Lewis added 4 points and the only bench player to score was Drekari Jones who had 2. The 3-0 Bulldogs were 19-for-34 (56%) at the line.
On Tuesday the Toombs County basketball teams will play at Long County with the Lady Bulldog game starting at 6 p.m. and the Bulldog game at approximately 7:30.
