Toombs County cross country runners head to state as Region 2 champs

The Toombs County Bulldog cross country team is seeking their best ever finish at the GHSA AA State Championships at Carrollton High School. Toombs won the Region 2 meet by a large margin with Tristan Lynn, Ricardo Santana and Ermais Fisser taking the top three position in the 3.1 mile race with all three runners finishing under 19 minutes.  Cruz Arredando placed sixth, Areal Rodrigues 15th and Martin Santana 19th. The AA race will begin at noon on Friday, November 4.

The Bulldogs raced on the state championship course earlier this season and finished second in the AA division behind Landmark Christian from Atlanta. Lynn placed third in 17:50 and Santana was fourth in 18:10.

One of the teams to beat this season is Bleckley County. The Royals won their twelfth straight region title and had five of the top six runners.

Last season Tristan was the only Bulldog to race at state last year and he finished 52nd, out of 223 runners, in 19:32.

In 2011 Daniel Avellenada placed 14th at the state meet  in a time of 17:27.43 and Toombs finished 12th.
