After 3 1/2 innings the Lyons Mite Girls trailed Appling County 9-1 in the game that decided which team would play Jeff Davis for the championship of the 54th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament. However, the hometown girls started hitting and scoring and they rallied to tie the game at 11 going to the final inning. In the sixth Appling outscored Lyons 2-1 to win the game 13-12.

Jeff Davis defeated Appling 15-11 to win the tourney, Appling is the runner-up and Lyons finished third.
The Appling infield defense held Lyons to just three hits and one run through the first three innings. Meanwhile Appling scored two runs in each of the first three frames. K.K. White (3-for-4 with two RBI’s) had a first inning triple and Keandra Clemmons (3-for-3) had a third inning three bagger.
Lyons scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and six more in the fifth. Halie Kight (3-for-3 with three RBI’s) stroked a two-run single in the fourth and a RBI hit in the fifth and Melea Pittman (2-for-3 with two RBI’s) singled in a run in the fourth and fifth. Those two girls bat ninth and tenth in the lineup. Lauren Hattaway, the leadoff batter, went 3-for-4 and she singled in a run in each of the innings.
Arlie Gooden, Krista Cantwell and Kassidy Branley also contributed RBI hits in the comeback.
So, this exciting game went to the final frame all tied up. With one out, White singled in an Appling run to make it 12-11 and Olivia Morris (2-for-3 with two RBI’s) singled in a run to make it 13-11.
In the bottom of the inning, Kayleigh Sanders (3-for-4) singled, Cantwell singled and Alexa Ledford (2-for-4) reached on a fielder’s choice. Brantley reached on a fielder’s choice and drove in a run to make it 13-12 and then the Appling defense made a final play to end the game.
