The Toombs County Bulldogs opened the second half of the Region 1 AAA Subregion schedule with a 3-1 loss at Dodge County. The loss dropped TCHS’s subregion record to 2-4 with four games remaining in subregion play. Watch a Salaine Meadows slideshow
In other action Pierce County defeated Tattnall County 6-1 and Appling County knocked off Brantley County 10-3.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. D.R. Meadows led off with a single and scored on a two-out opposite field hit to right field by Nick Curtis.
The Dawg lead held up until the bottom of the third inning . Clint Thompson singled and Tyler Pruitt was hit by a pitch and then the Bulldogs made an error and one run scored. A second run scored on a double steal. The Indians scored an earned run in the fourth. J.T. Shields singled and scored on Ethan Rice’s backside double down the left field line.
Toombs County only had five hits off junior right-handed pitcher Craig Barton. Logan McGowan doubled in the third inning and Meadows and George Lucke each singled in the sixth. However, McGowan was stranded at third and Meadows and Lucke at first and second.
Barton struck out six Bulldogs and he did not issue a walk. Curtis pitched all six innings and allowed six hits. Dodge stroked three straight hits with one out in the first inning. Curtis induced a double play ball to second baseman Lane Adams to end the threat. Curtis retired seven in a row to end the game. The senior struck out seven Indians and did not allow a walk.
In the top of the second inning George Lucke added another amazing catch to his resume. J.T. Shields hit a ball to deep right center field and Lucke ran head first into the fence and caught the ball.
