In two games played at Greg James Field the Toombs County junior varsity and varsity sweep Vidalia winning by a combined scored of 21-0 in 10 innings. In a pair of rematches at Jacky Jones Field the two games each went seven innings and were decided by one run. The Bulldog varsity scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 6-5, while the junior varsity Bulldogs were rallying in the seventh, but they came up one-run short in an 8-7 loss. Trailing 5-4 going to the bottom of the seventh, TCHS’s Lane Adams led off with a backside single off the glove of the shortstop, Logan McGowan stroked his third hit of the game with one down, moving Adams to third base, and then he stole second with two outs. Jordan Usher, who was 1-for-3 entering his seventh inning at bat, hit a 1-1 pitch to the shortstop. The throw to first base was low and took a high hop allowing McGowan to score from second. The throw from first base to the plate was too late to catch a hustling McGowan.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. D.R. Meadows led off with a walk and scored on a Nick Curtis single. Vidalia surged ahead in the fourth scoring a pair of runs on a Hall Graham single and a grounder to third base by McKinley Corbitt. The Indians pushed their lead to 5-1 in the fifth. The Bulldogs made two errors and Boaz Braucht doubled in a run and Graham singled in one.
The Bulldogs started their comeback in the bottom of the fifth. Dalton McBride led off with a single, Meadows reached on an error and Lane Adams drop a perfect bunt down the third base line and reached. McGowan followed with a two-run double and George Lucke drove in the third run of the frame with a double.
On the mound both senior pitchers threw a complete game. Curtis allowed seven Indian hits and two earned runs while piling up 11 strikeouts and he only issued one walk, to the leadoff hitter in the fourth inning. Nick improved to 2-1 after pitching his second straight complete game. He beat Islands 2-0 on a four hitter on the road.
Dylan Crawford yielded 11 Bulldog hits and struck out five while walking two.
