The Treutlen Vikings basketball team went 27-2 last season losing both games to Calhoun County- once in the regular season and the second time in the GHSA A Public School State Semifinal Game. In a match up with the Toombs County Bulldogs, in Lyons, the Vikings turned a 35-33 lead at half into an 88-66 victory by wearing out the Bulldogs with their relentless press.
Treutlen won the first quarter 17-13, Toombs took the second 20-18 and then the Vikings pulled away dominating the third quarter 26-10 and the fourth 27-19.
Thirteen different Vikings scored with Titus Benjamin leading the way with 16 points and C.J. Miller added 12. Jalen Mobley led TCHS with 22 points. He made one 3-pointer in the first half and three in the second. Jordan Usher scored 18, D.R. Meadows nine, Tyrese Lewis, Keshawn Morgan and Alex Blount each scored four and Karis Harden one.
Treutlen takes JV game too
Treutlen also won the junior varsity game on what was a boys only night. The Vikings led 31-14 at half and won the 28-minute game 58-37. Dakobe Thomas topped Treutlen with 15 points and John Shivers scored 10. Rakewan Williams scored 10 and was TCHS’s only double-digit scorer. Tyquan Toby added nine points, Jamar Burley eight, Cornelius Jones five, Demetrius Owens and Shawn Floyd two and Harden one.
