The Toombs County Bulldogs and the Appling County Pirates shared a similar record and a victory over a common opponent entering their Region 1 AAA subregion game in Baxley. Both teams had one win- a subregion victory over Pierce County. When the night was over the 2-8 Bulldogs had a 66-55 victory and a 2-1 subregion record thanks to a 13-0 run starting off the third quarter.
The Bulldogs struggled offensively in the first quarter and trailed 16-9 when the period was over. However, in the second quarter the Dawgs turned up their offensive and defensive intensity. Jalen Mobley, who was the game-high scorer with 26, scored seven points and D.R. Meadows, who had 13, drove to the hoop and scored twice including one with a couple of seconds remaining as TCHS opened up a 30-27 lead at half.
When the third quarter opened Meadows scored two more buckets and scored six in the quarter and Mobley hit a 3-pointer, made two free throws and scored nine points as TCHS led by as many as 18 and 50-39 after three.
In the fourth quarter Jordan Usher scored seven points and he finished with 14 of which 10 were scored in the second half. Keshawn Morgan added six points, Tyrese Lewis four and Alex Blount three.
The Toombs County junior varsity boys won their second game of the season as Tyquan Toby scored 13 points in a 42-28 victory. The Appling County girls beat Toombs County 46-26. Joann Gomez scored eight points, Demetria and Dominique Jones each scored six, Christine Mobley and Shakevia Knight each had three and Aisha Shipman one. Watch a slideshow
