The Lyons Mite Girls have fun while they are playing hard and that formula proved successful as they finished second in the District 1 Tournament and third in the GRPA State Tournament in Effingham County. The girls compete on the field and dance in the dugout between innings.
On the first day of the tourney Lyons beat Coffee County 15-11 and they lost to the eventual state champion Moultrie Black 10-1.
In the losers bracket the girls outscored Effingham County 19-11 and they defeated Troup County #2 6-3 on the second day of the tournament.
On the third day of action, Lyons beat Thomasville 18-11 and Coffee County 3-2 in seven innings. Their fantastic run ended with a 10-5 loss to state runner-up Ware County.
In their second victory over Coffee Lyons scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 2-all. KayKay Mobley and Lauren Hattaway each singled and scored. Madison Williams hit a big double in that inning.
In the extra inning both teams started with a runner at second. Coffee didn’t score in the top of the inning, but Lyons did in the bottom. With Williams at second base, Alexa Ledford singled up the center of the field driving in her teammate which ended the game starting the celebration which included the team dancing for the fans.
