2014 Season

Fall All-Region TCHS Athletes

Four Toombs County  High School athletes were named to the Region 1 AAA All-Region teams for the 2014 fall sports season. From the TCHS volleyball team, which went to the GHSA State Tournament and finished with a 21-13 record, Shyann Davis was named first team All-Region and seniors Sydnee Standard and Alivia Johnson were named to the second team. Also, from the TCHS softball team senior catcher Victoria Jordan was voted first team All-Region and junior shortstop Abigail Lynn was named to the second team.

Lady Dawgs rule in 8th

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs and Islands were playing a close Region 1-AAA Softball Tournament game until the game went to an extra inning tied at six. Thats when the Lady Dawgs took over. They knocked a couple pitches over the center field fence in a 13-9 victory at the Reidsville Recreation Department.

Abigail Lynn and Bailey Bryson, who have both hit homers earlier this season, drilled pitches over the centerfield fence. Amanda Powell smashed a double and Megan Dukes and Brittney Beckum (3-for-4) each had a single as the Lady Dawgs touched home seven times in the eighth inning.

The Lady Bulldogs’s season came to an end in the Region 1 Tourney with losses to Dodge 9-0 and SEB 8-2. The Lady Dawgs were no-hit by Dodge and Bailey Bryson, Courtney Moore and Brittney Beckum each had hits against SEB.

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs were one swing away from beating Southeast Bulloch on Senior Day. The bases were loaded and the count was two balls and one strike with one out on Courtney Moore, who had already stroked two base hits in the game. But, Moore never got to swing the stick. Instead it started raining and both teams were sent to their dugouts where they watched the field quickly become unplayable and the game was called with the score tied at four-all.

On Friday, 92 hours later the two teams reconvened in Lyons and finished the game. Only four pitches were thrown as Moore fouled off two pitches and took two to earn a walk to bring in Victoria Jordan with the game-winning run in a 5-4 victory. Watch highlights

TCHS entered the bottom of thes seventh trailing 4-3. Abigail Lynn, who drove in a pair of runs earlier in the game with a hit, singled. Senior Victoria Jordan, who also had a hit earlier, singled to left. Ansley Tatum singled to center driving in Lynn to tied the game at 4.

Trekking Lady Dawgs win 2-of-3

The Region 1 schedule sent the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team on two long trips on Monday and Tuesday. First the girls went to Savannah and swept a doubleheader with two no-hitters. Bailey Bryson struck out eight of the nine batters she faced in a 16-0 three-inning shutout of Savannah High and then Ansley Tatum struck out six in a 26-0 victory over Johnson. On Tuesday the Lady Bulldogs lost a subregion game at Pierce County 10-0. TCHS is 8-4.

Offensively, Bryson went 3-for-4 and 2-for-3 in Savannah and Tatum went 2-for-4 against Savannah, 2-for-3 against Johnson and 1-for-3 versus Pierce. Victoria Jordan went 2-for2 versus Johnson and 1-for-3 against Pierce, Courtney Moore was 2-for-2 against Savannah and Kierra Williams 2-for-3 versus Savannah.

For the second time in a week the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team lost an extra inning Region 1 Subreion game. On Tuesday the girls dropped an 8-7 decision at Tattnall County and on Thursday at home they lost to Brantley County 7-6. Both games went eight innings. Watch highlights and a slideshow

In the top of the third inning Toombs County shortstop Abigail Lynn smashed a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence to tie the Vidalia Lady Indians 1-1. However, The non-region game never made to the seventh inning in Vidalia. At 6:35 p.m. there was lightening in the area and by 7:10 the field was soaked by heavy rain and the game was called. Vidalia scored its run in the first inning on a walk, a stolen base, a single and a RBI grounder. Watch highlights

Lady Dawgs go 5-0 in tourney 

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs played five games in the Tattnall County Warrior Blast Tournament and they won all five by two or more runs. On Friday the Lady Bulldogs shutout Bradwell Institute 8-0 and run-ruled ECI 17-9. On Saturday TCHS took care of New Hampstead 6-4, beat Portal for a second time this season 7-2 (Toombs won 8-0 in Lyons) and they finished the tourney with a 9-3 victory over Wheeler County.

The Lady Dawgs will play three games in three days this week. Toombs returns to Tattnall County for a 6 p.m. subregion game on Tuesday, on Wednesday the girls will be in Vidalia for a 5:30 non-region contest and then on Thursday at 6 they will play host to Brantley County in a subregion game.

In between a more than one-hour rain delay and a game ending rain storm, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs opened their 2014 season with an 8-0 win over visiting Portal. The Lady Dawgs excelled in all three phase of the game. Bailey Bryson started her senior season with a shutout win which featured a handful of strikeouts and only two Lady Panther hits. The TCHS defense played errorless ball for the 4 1/3 innings of the rain-shortened game and the bats came to life after the second look at Portal’s pitcher who liked to work the outside part of the plate. Watch Highlights You Tube      

Bryson (2-for-2) tripled to the fence, in centerfield, in the second inning and scored on an Amanda Powell (2-for-2) infield hit to give TCHS a 1-0 lead. In the fourth Ansley Tatum reached on an error and scored on a Bryson double to right field. With Bailey on third once again, Powell singled in her second run of the game with a shot to right field. Courtney Moore (1-for-2) singled and Megan Dukes reached on a fielder’s choice to load up the bases. Brittney Beckum (2-for-2) singled in a run with the bases loaded. Abigail Lynn (1-for-3) followed with a two-run single to center, Victoria Jordan (1-for-3) singled to right and then scored as Portal was unable to scoop up a grounder at short off Tatum’s bat. The seven-run fourth beat the rain by mere minutes.

Seniors Katie Hayes and Roxi Lane enjoyed their Senior Day by both hitting doubles to the fence in the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs 12-4 five inning win over visiting Atkinson County. Lane ended the game with a two run double. Watch Highlights You Tube
TCHS Softball Banquet Awards- Abigail Lynn (.434 batting average) was the best offensive player, Katie Hayes the best defensive player, Dayo Waller the most improved player and Roxi Lane was the most spirited player.

Their nine game losing streak is over! The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs stroked 12 hits and defeated McIntosh County Academy 7-1 in Lyons to keep their shot at making the Region 2 Tourney alive. The Lady Bulldogs are 10-13 overall and 7-9 in the region with two more region games to play. Win both and the Lady Dawgs are in for sure.  

Abigail Lynn led the Lady Bulldog hitters by going 4-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Katie Hayes was 2-for-4 with two RBI’s, Ansley Tatum 2-for-4, Jennia Jernigan 1-for-2, Victoria Jordan 1-for-4 and Dayo Waller and Bailey Bryson were each 1-for-3. Bryson drove in a pair of runs with a first inning double that broke a 1-1 tie. Lady Dawgs rally in loss

On Labor Day the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team beat Metter for their fifth straight victory. However, since that holiday the Lady Dawgs have lost seven straight including a 9-6 eight inning home loss to Bryan County.   

TCHS was down 4-0 and 6-1 going to the bottom of the seventh. With one down Victoria Jordan walked and Dayo Waller hit a bloop single to right. The Lady Bulldogs made their second out and then Jennia Jernigan walked to load the bases. Abigail Lynn, who had three hits and three RBI’s, singled to center to plate two runs and Ansley Tatum singled to left to score the Lady Dawgs fourth run. Katie Hayes singled to load the bases for starting pitcher Bailey Bryson. With two down and two strikes Bryson hit a one-hop double to the left field fence scoring two runs to tie the game at 6-all.

Lady Dawgs celebrate Labor Day

An eight-run third inning propeled the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team to their fifth straight win. Toombs defeated Metter 8-2 in a Region 2 game in Lyons played on a rainy Labor Day afternoon. The game was stopped once for another summertime shower.

Eight Lady Bulldogs stroked at least one hit. Ansley Tatum was 3-for-4 and Abigail Lynn 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI. Katie Hayes, Bailey Bryson, Roxi Lane, Victoria Jordan, Dayo Waller and Victoria Reynolds each had a hit. Waller drove in two runs and Reynolds and Lane one each. 

Bryson pitched another complete game allowing two hits with two strikeouts. TCHS is 9-4 overall and 6-1 in Region 2.    

Lady Dawgs sweep the week

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team ended a busy week (four games in four days) with their fourth straight win. Bailey Bryson hit two home runs including a grand slam in the fifth as the Lady Dawgs crushed Atkinson County 9-1, in six innings, in Pearson. Bryson went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs. She hit a solo homer in the sixth and also pitched a complete game allowing an earned run on four hits with two strikeouts. The Lady Bulldogs, who are tied for first place in Region 2 with Bacon County and Jeff Davis, are 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the region.  

Dayo Waller was 3-for-3 and scored a run. Freshman Courtney Moore, who was making her first varsity start at first base, went 2-for-4. Katie Hayes and Ansley Tatum were also 2-for-4. Abigail Lynn went 1-for-4. However, the Lady Bulldog shortstop hit three hard shots to the pitcher and all three turned in to outs on fine defensive plays. Lynn was the Lady Bulldogs defensive standout. She started two double plays and covered a lot of ground gobbling up grounders.

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs played some small ball and some long ball in the sixth inning as they broke a 1-1 tie with a safety squeeze bunt by Amanda Powell and a run scoring double by Abigail Lynn and defeated Swainsboro 3-1 in a non-region game in Lyons. Watch highlights You Tube

The Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the first inning. Ansley Tatum singled and scored on a single past the shortstop by Roxi Lane. Swainsboro tied the game with a run scoring double in the top of the  sixth. Bailey Bryson pitched her third straight complete home game victory of the week and finished the contest with her eighth strikeout. The Lady Bulldogs improved their overall record to 7-4.

The Toombs County Bulldogs rallied from a 2-1 deficit by scoring six straight runs in a 7-2 home win over Bacon County. The Lady Raiders were one of two undefeated Region 2 teams entering the day. The Vidalia Indians also suffered their first loss at home against Jeff Davis. The Lady Dawgs are 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the Region.

Baylee Mixon drove in the first TCHS run with a sacrifice fly. The Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the third. Jennia Jernigan walked and scored on a wild pitch. Dayo Waller walked and scored on an error and Bailey Bryson doubled to the fence in left field and drove in a run.

Jernigan was hit by a pitch and scored on an error in the fourth and in the fifth Roxi Lane reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch and Taylor Thompson singled to right to drive in the final run of the game. 

Bryson pitched all seven innings and allowed only five hits, while striking out four Lady Raiders. Her defense made only one error and Jernigan made three catches in left field including going back to grab a fly ball and then coming in to catch a sinking liner. Froma shallow center field Waller threw out a runner at home trying to score on a fly ball. Watch game highlights You Tube

After three home rainouts, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs finally got to play their 2013 home opener and for the third straight time the Lady Bulldogs run-ruled St. Vincent’s and won by eight runs- 8-0 on a seven-strikeout shutout by pitcher Bailey Bryson. Bailey also drove in three runs with an inside-the-park homer in a six-run third inning. 

Abigail Lynn hit two triples and went 3-for-3. She tripled to deep left in the third and drove in Dayo Waller and she tripled to right in the fourth and scored on a wild pitch. Roxi Lane singled in a run in the third and singled again in the fourth. Ansley Tatum also had two hits including a run scoring double in the third and a RBI single in the fourth. Watch game action You Tube

Lady Bulldogs play in Cordele

On Friday, in their first day of action in the Watermelon Classic, in Cordele, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team split a pair of games. The Lady Dawgs lost to 6A Lowndes 5-1 and then beat 2A GAC 17-8 in five innings.

Abigail Lynn and Victoria Jordan each had a double against Lowndes and Jordan drove in the Lady Bulldogs’ only run. Katie Hayes, Dayo Waller and Bailey Bryson each had a single. Bryson pitched the whole game and struck out four batters.

Toombs County hit the ball much better against GAC. Lynn and Ansley Tatum were 2-for-2, Amanda Powell and Roxi Lane 3-for-4, Baylee Mixon 2-for-4 and Jordan 1-for-2 with a double. Freshman pitcher Taylor Thompson, who was making her varsity debut in the circle, pitched the whole game and allowed four hits with three strikeouts.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs routed single Miller County 23-8 on 24 hits. Roxi Lane and Hayes went 4-for-5, Lynn 3-for-5 and Bryson 3-for-4. Toombs County lost to 5A Lee County 9-0 on four hits and then finished the tourney with a 6-2 loss to Telfair County. TCHS had five hits in that game.   

Lady Dawgs power past McIntosh

Last season the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball season came to an end in the Region 2 playoffs with two close losses at McIntosh County Academy. However, the Lady Bulldogs avenged that with a 6-3 win, in Darien, to go 2-0 on the 2013 season. Katie Hayes and Bailey Bryson each hit solo home runs over the fence and Dayo Waller (2-for-2) and Abigail Lynn each drove in a pair of runs. Bryson pitched her second complete game of the season.   

Lady Dawgs open with comeback win

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs trailed their season opening softball game 1-0 going to the sixth at Long County. Senior second baseman Roxi Lane (1-for-3) leadoff the inning with a single and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game and sophomore right fielder Victoria Reynolds (1-for-3), playing her first varsity game, tripled down the right field line to give Toombs a 2-1 win.

“We didn’t give up,” said head coach Elaine Allen. “I told the girls to see the ball deeper at the plate. We were swinging early. Roxi came through big by getting on base and we layed down some bunts.” TCHS had seven hits. Senior catcher Katie Hayes was 2-for-4, Abigial Lynn had a double and went 1-for-4 and Ansley Tatum went 2-for-3.

Bailey Bryson pitched a comelete game and allowed only five hits. She stranded runners on second and third in the sixth by getting two big pop ups. The second one was caught by Victoria Jordan after she left her third base position and made a snowcone catch, near the fence, in foul territory. “Bailey pitched a really good game,” said coach Allen. “She didn’t let the first two hitters get one base in the seventh and that was very important.”

The Toombs County junior varsity team defeated Long County 14-1. Taylor Thompson was the winning pitcher.   

2012 Season  

Lady Bulldogs win crossover

For the second time this softball season the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs beat St. Vincent’s 10-2 in Lyons. The first time was in a regular season game and the second time, on Monday, was in a crossover Region 2 Tournament game between the fourth seeded Lady Dawgs from 2-W and the fifth seeded Saints from 2-E. Toombs will play at McIntosh beginning on Wednesday in a best-of-three series that will send the winner to the Region 2 Final 4 and also the state tourney.

Lady Bulldogs split with JD

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team has come a long way since they lost a Labor Day home game to Jeff Davis 16-0. In their final regular season action they almost swept that same team in a double header in Hazelhurst. Jeff Davis pulled out the first game 3-2 in eight innings and then the Lady Bulldogs rallied in their last at bat, in the seventh inning, and won 5-4.

In the first game Jeanie Smith singled in the first inning and Roxi Lane followed with a two-run homer over the left field fence- her second longball of the season. Former Lady Bulldog Aryn McGowan also hit an over-the-fence home run.

Both teams started off the eight inning with a runner at second. The Lady Bulldogs left their runner at third and the Lady Yellow Jackets drove in theirs.

Toombs began it’s late game comeback in game two in the sixth inning. Abby Lynn walked and scored on a double by Jennia Jernigan. Then in the seventh Victoria Jordan singled and stole second and scored on a single by winning pitcher Bailey Bryson. Lynn triple in Bryson and Ansley Tatum supplied the game-winning hit that drove in Lynn.

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team split a pair of subregion home games with Bacon County. The Lady Raiders won the fist game 6-0 and the Lady Bulldogs scored all their runs in the second inning in a 5-1 victory. Senior Abby Lindsey and Victoria Jordan each singled in a run and then Roxi Lane doubled to right, with the bases loaded, scoring three runs.

TCHS pitcher Bailey Bryson got out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning with a strikeout and a ground ball out to second base. The only run she allowed was on a solo homer over the center field fence. Watch highlights of game two You Tube    

Lady Bulldogs Bounce Back

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team bounced back from dropping a doubleheader at Vidalia by sweeping a pair of home games from Atkinson County 14-0 in four innings and 13-3 in six. The highlight of the double-dip was in the first innning when second baseman Roxi Lane pulled a pitch and smashed it over the left field foul poll for a grand slam- her first home run of her varsity career. In game game two freshman Ansley Tatum put TCHS up 2-1 with a RBI single to right and 6-1 with a run scoring base hit to left. Twenty-four hours after yielding 10 runs and losing to Vidalia, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs hit double-digits in a 10-2 five-inning win over visiting St. Vincent’s. The top four hitters (Victoria Jordan, Abby Lynn, Jeanie Smith and Bailey Bryson) in the TCHS lineup each had a single and even though nobody else had a hit each Lady Dawg scored at least a run with Bryson touching home twice. Roxy Lane touched all three bases and home plate when she scored on a flyball which was dropped by the left fielder. Watch highlights You Tube

Bryson, who was the starting pitcher, allowed only three hits and struck out six batters. She yielded two hits and two runs in the first inning, but only one was earned as the Lady Bulldogs made their only error of the afternoon. After that Bryson clamped down on the Savannah girls retiring eight straight including four by strikeouts. That run came to an end on an one-out walk in the fourth. A single followed and with runners on second and third and one down Bailey ended the threat with a strikeout and by inducing an easy grounder to Lane at second base. Bryson ended the game with a three up, three down fifth.

For four innings the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs and the Vidalia Lady Indians were playing a tough, well pitched softball game. However, beginning in the fifth the Lady Dawgs made some mistakes and Vidalia took advantage as the Lady Indians turned a 3-1 advantage into a 10-1 victory in Lyons. Watch highlights You Tube

Vidalia took a 2-0 lead in the second. Jeanie Smith struck out the first two batters and allowed the first hit of the game. A grounder that bounced off the third base bag gave the Lady Indians a 1-0 lead. A TCHS error made it 2-0. Lyons countered with a run in the bottom of the frame. Baily Bryson singled and wound up on third on an error on the play and then she scored when Katie Hayes laid down a bunt that turned into a single.  

Vidalia scored an unearned run in the third and then broke away by tallying four runs in the fifth and three in the seventh.

After jumping to a 3-0 start in the new season, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs dropped their first game to Swainsboro 6-4 in Lyons. The Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 4-1 early, had opportunities to score in the first three innings. However, they left runners on second and third in the first inning, at second in the second and the bases loaded in the third. Following a 45 minute lightening delay the Lady Bulldogs hit the ball a little better. On Wednesday, in Mt. Vernon, TCHS swept Montgomery County 14-5 and 12-0. Bryson was the winning pitcher in game one and Katie Hayes hit an inside the park home run. Smith had a perfect game going for four innings in game two and wound up pitching a one-hitter. Bryson hit a couple of triples.

After two rain outs- a scrimmage game and a doubleheader, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs finally got to open up their 2012 season at home against Bryan County and dressed in their new red and blue uniforms the girls stroked seven hits and won 11-2 in five innings. Watch highlights You Tube

Jeanie Smith pitched a complete game three-hitter and struck out three and she left the bases loaded twice. Dayo Waller was 1-for-2 with a double and scored three runs. Victoria Jordan went 2-for-4 and doubled and scored a run. Abby Lindsey singled in a run and Haley Jackson had a single and dropped a bunt in front of the plate that was misplayed scoring Waller and allowing Jackson to wind up at third in a three-run first inning.

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog Softball team split a pair of five inning games with Swainsboro as they wrapped up their home schedule of summer ball games. The Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in their final at bat in game one to take the five inning game 4-2. Starting and winning pitcher Jeanie Smith singled up the middle to drive in Victoria Jordan and Abby Lynn. Jordan reached on a one-out walk and Lynn reached on a bunt. Bailey Bryson tripled and scored on a wild pitch and Roxy Lane doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by J.C. Clark. Watch highlights You Tube

2011 Season

Georgia’s last home game

Georgia Jernigan, Toombs County’s only senior softball player, was the lone Lady Bulldog honored on Senior Day. TCHS lost 5-0 to Jeff Davis in a Region 2 game. Jernigan went 1-for-2 with a walk. Her single was the Lady Bulldog’s first hit. The leftfielder also caught two fly balls including one (above picture) in which she had to make a leaping grab. Watch a slideshow

When the Toombs County softball team opened up the regular season the Lady Bulldogs smashed East Laurens 15-5 in five innings. In the rematch in Lyons the game went an extra inning and TCHS prevailed 12-11. Haley Jackson singled in the tying run and scored the game-winner, from third base, on a wild pitch to give Toombs a 3-1 record heading to Region 2 play.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the second on a two-run single by Katie Hayes and a two-run double by Jeannie Smith. TCHS led 4-3 and 5-3 and then the game changed in the top of the sixth when a string of Lady Bulldog errors led to a seven-run frame. Now Toombs trailed 10-5. But, that changed quickly.

In the bottom of the sixth Eryn McGowan doubled deep to left center scoring three. Jackson smacked a sacrifice fly that cut the lead to one run and then Georgia Jernigan scored on a grounder to make it 10-all. Nobody scored in the seventh so the game moved to the eighth and each team started the inning with a runner on second. East Laurens scored a run on a wild pitch and Toombs won it with a two-spot.

Over the years Swainsboro pitchers have tried to get Lady Bulldog hitters out by pitching to the outside part of the plate. However, Toombs County adjusted to that strategy by hitting to the opposite side in a 12-6 home win. Hayley Jackson and Katie Hayes each had two hits to the right and early in the game each singled in two runs. Bailey Bryson had her second three hit game and Roxy Lane, Aryn McGowan and Georgia Jernigan all had base hits. Jeannie Smith pitched seven innings and had 11 strikeouts for the 2-1 Lady BulldogsWatch Highlights and a Slideshow

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team opened their season with a 15-5, five-inning win at East Laurens. Freshman Bailey Bryson made her varsity debut by smashing two triples and a double and she walked once. Bryson also pitched the final three innings and allowed two hits. Jeannie Smith pitched the first two innings and allowed two hits and no runs. Kayla Mosley went 2-for-2 with two walks.

In their home opener the Lady Bulldogs trailed Bacon County 10-0 before they scored three runs in the third. Abby Lindsey hit a ball to the right side of the infield that scored two. In the fourth inning the Lady Bulldogs put runners on first and second and almost scored again. Roxy Lane hit a line drive that was caught by the second baseman moving to her left. The Lady Bulldogs next game is at home on Monday, August 22 at 5 p.m. versus Swainsboro.

TCHS in region playoffs with Senior Day win 

A 6-1 Senior Day win over St. Vincent’s clinched a birth in the Region 2 playoffs for the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs. Both teams scored a run in the second inning and heading in to the fifth the Lady Bulldogs had no hits. However, suddenly they started stroking extra base hits. Megan Meadows broke up the no-hitter with a right field triple and then Kayla Mosley followed with a RBI double and Katie Norfleet a run-scoring triple. After the seven, eight and nine hitters did their damage the top of the order brought in three more runs in a five-run inning. Additional runs were scored on an error, a ball hit to right by Jeannie Smith and a RBI grounder by Caitlin Vinson. Vinson was also the winning pitcher throwing a complete-game four-hitter with four strikeouts. Watch highlights Video

Lady Bulldogs end season with DH sweep

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs celebrated Senior Day with a double-header sweep of East Laurens. A 12-7 win in game one clinched a spot in the Region 3 Tourney for the Lady Bulldogs. Senior Elizabeth Kirkley led TCHS by going five-for-five. Kirkley hits Yearty (twice)

In a game in Lyons, earlier in the season, Bleckley County pitcher Chelsey Yearty no-hit the Toombs County Bulldogs. In the rematch in Cochran, Megan Hayes broke up Yeraty’s no-hit bid with a two-out single in the first and then Elizabeth Kirkley stroked runs scoring hits in the third and fifth. The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs rallied from a 5-2 deficit by scoring two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh inning in a 6-5 home win over Dublin. Bleckley County junior pitcher Chelce Yearty pitched a no-hitter in the Lady Royals 4-1 win at Toombs County. The Lady Bulldogs tied the game at one-all in the fourth when Brianna Mincey walked, stole second and third and then scored on a wild pitch. 2008 Season

Lady Bulldogs celebrate 2008 season at banquet 

The Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team celebrated the 2008 season at a banquet at Chatters in Lyons. The Lady Bulldogs, who came within three outs of making it back to sectionals, honored four players who were named to either All-Region 3 or All-Sub-Region 3A teams. Juniors Brianna Mincey (2B) and Elizabeth Kirkley (3B), pictured on the left, were named to the All-Sub-Region 3B team. Lady Bullldogs season ends in the 7th inning

During the regular season Dodge County beat Toombs County 7-1 and 8-0 on a three-hitter and a no-hitter. However, with a trip to the state sectionals on the line the Lady Bulldogs almost pulled off an upset in the Region 3 Tournament in Swainsboro. Toombs County scored four runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. That advantage held up until the bottom of the seventh when the Lady Indians scored twice to win the game 5-4. Watch highlights with Y-101 Radio play-by-play Video

Lady Bulldogs survive first day of region tourney

After losing to Screven County 8-2 in the opening round of the Region 3 Tournament in Swainsboro, the Toombs County lady Bulldog softball team stayed alive in the double-elimination event by defeating Swainsboro 8-0. Caitlin Vinson pitched the entire six inning game and allowed only a couple of hits. Cornshia Corouthers had a big hitting game driving in two runs, in a four run third inning, with a triple and Elizabeth Kirley, who almost hit a grand slam home run to center field, hit a ball that scored four runs including herself.  Watch highlights Screven County Game  Swainsboro Game   

Lady Bulldogs end regular season with rout

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs ended their regular season by stroking 14 hits in a 20-0 three inning win at East Laurens. Brianna Mincey hit an inside-the-park grand slam and Caitlin Vinson pitched a no-hitter. The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up fourth place in the sub region and a trip to Swainsboro for the Region 3 Tourney. Vidalia rallies for extra inning win

Less than three weeks after being shutout by Vidalia 9-0 the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs played much better on Senior Day in Lyons. However, Vidalia rallied from a 3-0 deficit and defeat TCHS 5-4 in eight innings. Toombs County built up a 3-0 lead by scoring single runs in the third, fourth and fifth inning. Lady Bulldogs lose another close one to Swainsboro

Kirkley hits a two-run homer over the fence

For the second Monday in a row the Swainsboro Lady Tigers defeated Toombs County in a close game. The Lady Tigers held on to a 6-5 win in Lyons just seven days after beating the Lady Bulldogs 2-0 in Swainsboro. Elizabeth Kirkley raliled Toombs County to within a run with a well stroked two-run home run over the left field fence. Kirkley’s third career homer (the first two came in travel ball) was her first high school home run and the first over the fence homer by a Lady Bulldog at the field next to the middle school. Y-101 Story  Watch highlights of the game and see Kirkley’s blast Video  

Lady Bulldogs lose to Bleckley

Bleckley County freshman pitcher Marlee Bryan pitched the Lady Royals to a 5-1 win over the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs softball team in Lyons on Thursday. Bryan pitched a four-hitter with eight strike outs. Caitlin Vinson pitched a four inning no-hitter as Toombs County beat winless Dublin 18-0 on the road. Tired Lady Bulldogs lose a tough one

Just one full day after playing six games in 13 hours with just a two hour break in a tourney at Jeff Davis, the Toombs County lady Bulldog softball team lost a 2-0 game at Swainsboro. Senior pitchers Samantha Dowd (TCHS) and Macy Lawson each pitched a two-hitter. The difference in the game was taking advantage of scoring opportunities. Winning day for Toombs County sports

Thursday was a winning day for Toombs County sports. The TCHS Lady Bulldog softball team defeated East Laurens 12-2 in five innings. Caitlin Vinson tossed a two-hitter and Samantha Dowd went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Watch highlights Video  The Toombs County Middle School softball team beat East Laurens 14-1 and Lakayla Faison and Jeannie Smith both hit home runs. The B-Team Bulldog football team opened up their season with a 12-6 win at Tattnall County and the Toombs County Middle School football team shut out Dublin 26-0 at home in its season opener. Dodge County won two softball games in Lyons as the Lady Indians beat the Toombs County High School Lady Bulldogs 7-1 and Dodge’s Middle School defeated the Lady Bullpups 9-1. Toombs splits softball doubleheader

The Toombs County softball teams split a pair of games with their visitors from Laurens County. The TCHS Lady Bulldogs beat Dublin 15-0 in three innings. Lady Bulldogs drop sub-region opener

After having three games postponed due to rain or a wet field, the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs finally got to play their first game in nine days. The result was a 6-1 loss at Bleckley County. The Lady Royals’ Marlee Bryan pitched a perfect game for four innings. Lady Bulldogs open home slate with a loss

The Toombs County lady Bulldogs opened their home schedule with a 6-5 loss to Tattnall County. Both teams scored three runs in the third and Toombs took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI grounder by Brianna Mincey. Lady Bulldogs tourney run ended by Appling

Playing in a tournament in Glennville, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team breezed through pool play winning their third straight game, 12-3 over Tattnall County, on Saturday. Elizabeth Kirkley went 4-5 with four runs scored and Corneshia Courouthers drove in six runs. Samantha Dowd pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. However, in the quarterfinals of the tourney Appling County beat the Lady Bulldogs 10-4. Y-101 Story  Watch highlights of the Appling game Video    
On Friday, the Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball team opened up the season with two complete game two-hit victories. Senior Samantha Dowd pitched TCHS to a 4-2 win over Liberty County by tossing a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Corneshia Courouthers had a triple. In the second game the Lady Bulldogs beat Claxton 9-2 as sophomore Caitlin Vinson threw her two-hitter and struck out 11. 

Lady Bulldogs wrap up summer season

 Five Lady Bulldogs are honored

Five Toombs County Lady Bulldog softball players were honored for their play during the 2007 season. Senior Brittany Wilds (pitcher/first base) junior Corneshia Courouthers (catcher) and junior Samantha Dowd (pitcher/third base) were voted to the All-Region 4 team. The Mincey sisters, senior Jessica (shortstop) and sophomore Brianna (second base) were both honorable mention.   Y-101 Audio Story  

Lady Bulldogs eliminated in South Sectionals

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs lost to Jeff Davis 3-0 in a first round game. The game was scoreless going to the sixth inning. Elizabeth Kirkley had two doubles, Jessica Mincey two singles and Brianna Mincey had a single. Samantha Dowd pitched the game for the Lady Bulldogs. Lady Bulldogs beat Bleckley 1-0 again

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs beat Bleckley County 1-0. Sam Dowd pitched a three-hitter and Brianna Mincey scored the game’s only run in the third when she hustled in from third on a wild pitch. Earlier in the season Dowd beat Bleckley 1-0 and she drove in the game’s only run.  Audio

 Lady Bulldogs lose to Bacon County

The Toombs County Lady  Bulldog softball team was trying to bust out of a five game losing streak, but instead three unearned runs helped Bacon County win 3-2 in Lyons on Monday. Samantha Dowd drove in both of the Toombs County runs with a single in the second that scored Jessica Mincey, who had doubled, and Dowd hit a grounder to short that tied the game at two in the fourth. Vidalia takes first rivalry game

The Vidalia Lady Indians scored two early runs and four late ones to beat the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs 6-0 in a softball game in Lyons. Winning pitcher Brooke McKie allowed four hits and one walk and struck out eight. Toombs County pitching of Brittney Wilds and Samantha Dowd allowed only two hits, but eight Lady Indians walked and two were hit by a pitch. In a game heard on Y-101 Radio, Tattnall County nipped Toombs County 3-2 in softball. The Lady Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the early innings. Tiffany Simmons hit the ball to the right side of the infield to score the first run and Jessica Mincey tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Tattnall scored one in the 5th and two in the 6th. Lady Bulldogs are no-hit in practice game loss to Pierce

The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs were no-hit in a 3-0 seven inning home practice game against Pierce County. Three Lady Bulldog pitchers allowed only five hits, four of them were stroked by Jessica Thornton who pitched the first four innings of the no-hitter. The Toombs County Lady Bulldogs softball team has been practicing and playing scrimmage games against other schools in preparation for the start of the season in August. The Lady Bulldogs have just one returning senior (Brittany Wilds), but they have a quality junior class and a lot of young players. The team features quality pitching and good defense.
