D.R. Meadows Youth Baseball Career Playing for the Lyons Recreation Department
D.R. played on two teams that finished second in state competition. In 2009 as a MIte and in 2013 as a Junior.
2013- Juniors(13 and 14 years old)
Lyons Juniors finish second at the 2013 GRPA State Tournament
Lyon 6, Vidalia 1- Lyons scored four runs in the fourth when Tanner Hattaway bunted D,R, Meadows in from third and Brandon Helton hit a three-run triple. Hattaway had one more RBI bunt in the sixth.
Meadows struck out batters with the bases loaded in the first and runners on second and third in the third to keep the game scoreless. Meadows struckout 10 batters and allowed only one base hit.
Lyons broke a five-all tie in the fourth and the boys pulled away to an 11-5 victory in six innings over Gilmer County. D.R. Meadows went 1-for-4 with a double.
2013 District 1 Tournament
Lyons finishes second in district
Lyons Junior Boys stayed alive in the losers bracket with a 9-3 win over Swainsboro. D.R. Meadows pitched three scoreless innings and went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.
Vidalia Junior Boys 10, Lyons 8- D.R, Meadows had two hits including a RBI double in the first and a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
2013 Lyons Youth Tournament
Christian Conley singled up the middle on a 3-2 fastball, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, to score D.R. Meadows lifting Lyons to a 1-0 win over Appling County in the winners bracket of the Junior Boys Division of the Lyons Youth Tournament.
In the sixth Meadows reached on the home team’s first walk. Adams sacrificed him to second with a bunt and then Meadows ripped off third base. Appling was tossing the ball around after a strikeout and nobody was covering third allowing D.R. to advance.
Three Lyons pitchers (White, Meadows and Brandon Helton) have not allowed a single run in 10 innings of the Lyons Youth Tourney.
The Lyons Junior Boys, the defending Lyons Youth Tournament champions, opened up the 2013 tourney with a 10-0, four inning win over Swainsboro at Partin Park.
D.R. Meadows threw the first two innings and struck out four including three in the second inning. He allowed a two-out double and stranded runners on second and third in the first. Meadows also drove in a run with a grounder.
2012- Juniors (13 and 14 years old)
Lyons Juniors go to the GPRA State Tournament
The Lyons Junior Boys beat Union City 7-2 (6 innings) and the Lyons Junior Girls held off Lee County 4-3 (5 innings). Both games were stopped by the time limit. D.R. Meadows went 2-for-2 and doubled in a run.
Lyons Juniors win District 1 Tournament
The Lyons Junior Boys All-Star team proved you may be able to tie them, but it is real tough to beat them on the Big Field at Partin Park.
The 13-14 year old boys won their seventh straight tourney game, on their home field, to claim their first First District championship in two years. Lyons bolted to a 5-1 lead. Vidalia tied the game at five-all with a four-run sixth and then Lyons pulled out a 7-6 win in the eighth by outscoring their rival 2-1 in an extra inning.
Lyons Juniors take LYT
D.R. Meadows (2-for-4) singled in a run in as the 2012 Lyons Junior Boys ended their unbeaten run through the 50th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament with a 14-6 five inning win over Vidalia. The victory clinched the “Big Trophy” for the juniors for the first time in seven years.
D.R. Meadows (1-for-2 with two walks) singled in the second run and another scored on the play on an error in a 7-4 win over Vidalia as Lyons moved into the championship game.
2011- Lyons Midget Boys go to the GRPA State Tournament
D.R. Meadows drove in two runs and Lane Adams and Stephen Garrett each had a RBI hit as the Lyons Midget Boys summer came to an end in the loss.
Lyons Midget Boys win District 1 Title
Lyons #1 beat Dublin 13-2. D.R. Meadows drove in six runs and struck out six in two innings of pitching. Meadows hit a three-run inside the park homer and doubled in two.
Lyons Midgets surge to third place finish
The Lyons Midget Boys made it to Monday in the Lyons Youth Tourney with a dramatic comeback in the sixth inning. Trailing Bacon County 8-7, Lyons loaded up the bases for D.R. Meadows. Meadows showed his good eye by drawing a walk to tie the game.
With one out Stephen “Smiley” Garrett ended the game with a line drive down the third base line scoring Brandon Reynolds, who was running for Tanner Hattaway, who reached on a hit. Meadows also pitched the whole game and struck out nine batters.
2009- Mite (9 and 10 years old)
Lyons Mites finish second in the GRPA State Tournament in Dublin
Lyons Mite Boys 9, Summerville 2 D.R. Meadows hit a home run
Lyons Mite Boys 13, Washington County 4 Lane Adams had four hits and D.R. Meadows stroked three hits
Mite Boys- Dublin #2 8, Lyons 7 D.R. Meadows singled in two runs in the top of the sixth to make it a one run game.
Mite Boys- Lyons 7, Statesboro #1 6 D.R. Meadows doubled in two runs in the top of the sixth and Landon Youmans made an over the shoulder running catch with runners on first and third to end the game.
The 9-10 year old Lyons Mite Boys lost to Dublin 15-11 in their third losers bracket game of the Lyons Youth Tournament. Lyons, which trailed 4-0, built up a 9-4 lead after four innings. Dublin rallied with four runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth.
On Saturday Lyons played nearly flawless on defense and won two losers bracket games on Saturday to stay alive in the Lyons Youth Tournament. Lyons defeated Pooler 6-5 in a morning game. Lyons turned a triple play with the bases loaded in the second inning and the local boys ended the game with a double play. Christian Conley and Kyle Watkins each had run scoring singles in the third.
Earlier in the tourney, Lyons lost 3-2 to Glennville after beating Swainsboro 17-2. Christian Conley and Donnie Barrow each drove in a run for Lyons in the loss. Glennville rallied for two runs in the sixth to win the game.
