The Toombs County High School baseball team came up short in Game 2 of the first region series of the 2021 season 5-3 in Hazlehurst versus Jeff Davis.
In the top of the first the Bulldogs went three and out offensively. The first inning for the Yellow Jackets set up the remainder of the game. JD batted through their entire lineup and scored three runs in the first inning. Jeff Davis also scored a run in the bottom of the second. The game was 4-0 going into the third.
The Bulldogs scored their first pair of runs in the third. Junior Bryson Stanley reached on a base hit while Junior Kodie Cortez bunted himself on. Runners were on the corners for Senior Chandler Lynn. Lynn reached on an error which scored Stanley from third. Senior Chase Musselman came to the dish and had a RBI single that scored Cortez. The game remained 4-2 for two and a half innings.
TCHS and JD both scored a run the sixth. TCHS scored their run on some pitching errors. Junior Jason Dukes and Senior Alex Gordy were both hit by a pitch and Stanley walked. The bases were loaded for Freshman Jesus Quintero. Quintero had a sacrifice fly to centerfield which allowed Dukes to tag up from third and score. Jeff Davis scored their run on an RBI single by Trenton Clance which scored Ethan Griffin who reached on a base hit.
Senior Chase Musselman pitched five complete innings. Musselman allowed 10 hits, four runs – two were earned, walked three, and had a strikeout.
Sophomore Lucas O’Conner pitched an inning in relief. O’Conner allowed two hits, an earned run, a walk, and had a strikeout.
With this loss, TCHS falls to 9-5 on the season and 1-1 on the region.
