You can’t beat a Walk-off Homer

The Toombs County Bulldog baseball team played their last non-region game of the 2021 season against the Benedictine Cadets and lost 4-1 in extra innings.

The Bulldogs held a tied game with the #1 ranked Cadets all through the seven regulation innings of high school baseball at one all.

The Cadets scored their one run in the bottom of the first. Cadet leadoff hitter Carter Holton reached on a double. During Cadet shortstop Kim Edge’s at bat Holton stole third which set up a runner in scoring position. Edge flew out to left-fielder Chase Musselman and with one down Cadet centerfielder Justin Thomas hit a sacrifice grounder that scored Holton.

The Bulldogs scored their one run in the top of the third. With two down, Junior Kodie Cortez reached on a walk. That carried TCHS to the top of the lineup to Senior Chandler Lynn. Lynn hit a RBI single to the outfield that scored Cortez from third. Cortez stole second and third during Lynn’s at bat.

The game remained tied through the seven regulation innings. In the bottom of the eighth with runners on second and third, Cadet first baseman Will Walker was up to bat. With one down, Walker smacked a three run homer over the left field fence to win the game.

The Bulldogs will finish their non-region schedule and enter region action with a 8-4 record.

TCHS will begin region play on Tuesday, March 23 at home versus the Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets. The first pitch will be at 5:45 and it’ll be live on Y-101 100.9 and streamed on our YouTube page.
