The Toombs County School System has suspended classes beginning Monday, March 16 and running through March 27th meaning all Toombs County High School and Middle School sports are on hold during this national emergency.
Here is the statement from the Toombs County Board of Education:
In the wake of the President’s National State of Emergency recently declared this afternoon, and extensive conversations with state and local agencies regarding COVID-19 and the public health emergency it has caused, the Toombs County School System will be closing its operations beginning Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27th. Again, this is an unprecedented decision to have to make, however, we are dealing with unprecedented events. The decision is difficult and is not taken lightly. However, it is our most important duty to ensure the safety and security of our staff and students in Toombs County and all recommendations to avoid large crowd gatherings by the Governor as well as the State School Superintendent are being followed.
Effective Monday March 16th, all other school activities are suspended for one week. We will make a decision on restarting extracurricular activities by the end of next week.
