Some games are decided early and some late. The second game of a three game series between the Toombs County Bulldogs and the Bryan County Redskins was decided in the first inning at Jacky Jones Field. Bryan County scored three unearned runs and held on to a 3-2 victory.
The top of the first inning began with two Bulldog errors and a hit batsman. The Redskins scored two runs on singles by Aaron Bailey and Thed Stewart. The other run was scored on a 6-4-3 Bulldog double play- Kodi Cortez to Alex Gordy to Gray Stephens.
Toombs County came back in the bottom of the first inning and scored twice. Chandler Lynn walked, Cortez singled and Stephens drove both of them in with a single to right field.
The Dawgs had other scoring opportunities against pitcher Jacob Hughes who allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. TCHS left a runner at second base in the third inning, the bases loaded in the fourth, and a runner at second in the sixth.
Left-handed sophomore Logan Knight pitched his third complete game and during this stretch of 20 innings he has allowed only 17 hits and one earned run (0.35 ERA). He has struck out eight batters and walked one and despite those numbers he is 0-3 in those starts against Coffee, Bacon County and Bryan County,.
In 34 2/3 innings Knight has allowed 29 hits while striking out 27 batters and walking nine. His earned run average is 1.21.
