The Toombs County Bulldogs sixth game of the season- in the Pit against Bryan County- will have a different feel for their fans. It is a 7 o’clock start on a Thursday night on Y-101 Radio. The Bulldogs they say that Thursday game is no different than a Friday game and homecoming is for the student body.
The Bulldogs evened their Region 2 record at 1-1 with a 38-0 win at Bacon County- their third shutout of the season. The Bulldogs are 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the region.
Junior running back D.J. Mincey scored four touchdowns, all in the first half. Mincey rushed for 134 yards on 11 carries averaging 12.2 yards every time he touched the ball. The Bulldogs piled up a season-high 279 rushing yards averaging 9 yards per carry.
Mincey scored his first TD on a 7-yard run with 3:45 to play in the first quarter. His second on a 28-yard run 50 seconds into the second quarter. A third on an 18-yard run with 6:27 left in the second quarter and a fourth on a 1-yard run with 2:04 to play in the first half.
The Bulldogs Julio Almanza kicked a 34-yard field goal that hit the left upright and went through the goal post as the first half ended to give Toombs a 31-0 lead.
Brannon Usher scored the final TD of the night on a 2-yard run with 9:49 to play in the third quarter.
The Redskins have yielded 40 or more points in all five of their games while only scoring 19 points on offense.
Bryan County has played three quarterbacks- senior (#12) Hunter Lee and freshman (#14) Josiah Scott and a number 18 who played against Jeff Davis. Scott has completed 10 passes and Lee six. Senior (#7) Kyle Hines- 6-1, 190- has caught half of Bryan’s completed passes. His eight catches good for 118 yards.
The team’s leading rusher is junior (#23) Roshad Godwin. He is listed at 5-3 and 195 pounds. He has rushed for a total of 209 yards on 47 carries and is averaging 4.4 yards every time he runs the ball.
In Bryan County’s last game- a 47-3 loss to Jeff Davis in Pembroke- Godwin ran for a season-high 102 yards on 11 carries. He averaged 9.3 yards and scored his second touchdown of the season on a 44-yard run.
