Swainsboro scored two earned runs and two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie and beat the Toombs County Lady Bulldogs 7-3 in TCHS’s first Region 2 game played in Swainsboro.
The Lady Dawgs had one lead in the game. K.K. Mobley (2-for-4 with two runs scored) reached on an error and scored on a Riley Lumley (2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored) grounder in the top of the first inning.
Swainsboro scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a single and a sacrifice to take a 2-1 lead and the Lady Tigers pushed it to 3-1 on a single in the second inning.
Toombs County scored in the third inning. The top of the order set the table with base hits by Mobley and Lumley and with two down Rilyn Fitzgerald (1-for-3 with a RBI) singled scoring Lumley.
In the top of the fifth inning Mobley and Lumley got on base again. K.K. sent a liner to center field for a hit and Riley reached on a bunt. With one down Krista Cantwell hit the ball to second to score Mobley which tied the game at 3.
The Lady Bulldogs went three-up, three-down in the sixth inning and left runners on first and second in the seventh. Jesslyn Smith (1-for-3) and Ziahya Griffin (1-for-4) each singled to right field. Amya Bullard and Lily Mosley also had hits in the game and each went 1-for-3.
Lauren Hattaway pitched six innings and allowed five earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
On Wednesday the Lady Bulldogs will play a doubleheader at West Laurens beginning at 4:30 p.m. and on Thursday at 5:30 they will play host to Jeff Davis.
