Lyons Flea Girls have fun and pull away to a 20-9 GRPA State Championship win over Wayne County

2019 GRPA State Champion Lyons Flea GIrls

The Lyons Flea Girls entered the championship round of the GRPA State Tournament in Savannah needing just one victory over Wayne County to win the title. However, that cushion was erased by a 10-7 Wayne County win. So, what did Lyons head coach Becky Pittman do to get her team of eight and under players ready for the decisive game two? She let them have some fun between games. “Someone told me girls do well when they are having fun and boys have fun when they do well,” Pittman said. ” We just let them kind of goof and play and have fun before that second game and kept their spirits up.”

Coach Pittman’s game plan worked. Lyons came out in that second game and scored six runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and then nine in the fourth to run-rule Wayne County 20-9.
