Lyons Mite Girls rally in the final inning and win the District 1 Championship

Entering the sixth and final inning of the Mite Girls (9-10 years old) District 1 Championship Game, the Lyons All-Stars trailed Swainsboro 9-6. Although Lyons had a cushion being the only undefeated team in the tourney and if they lost the championship would go to the if necessary game, Lyons rallied with a big inning. The big hit came off the bat of Rayne Sears, who hit the ball just over the shortstop’s glove with the bases loaded and two outs. McKenzie Coursey scored the winning run as Lyons pulled out a 10-9 victory.

Lyons led most of the game by scores of 2-0, 2-1 and even 6-3 going to the top of the sixth. Swainsboro scored six runs to take a 9-6 lead and then Lyons scored four in the bottom of the fame to end the game.

Sears went 3-for-4 with a run scored, Alina Diaz 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Makenna Gardisser 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Kayleigh Montford 2-for-2 with a run scored, Taniya Simpson 2-for-3 with a run scored, Addison Welch 2-for-2 with two doubles a walk and a run scored, Coursy 1-for-1 with a run scored and Breanna Allen 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Earlier in the tourney Lyons won two close games- 12-10 over Vidalia and another 10-9 decision past Swainsboro. The girls also defeated Effingham 11-5.
