The Lyons Midget Girls (11-12 years old) qualified for the GRPA State Tournament by winning the District 1 Championship with an 11-3 win over Swainsboro at Partin Park in Lyons.
Lyons will travel down to Tifton and open state tourney play on June 26 at 10 a.m. at the E. B. Hamilton Complex on Field #4.

Lyons led Swainsboro 5-1 after the first inning, 5-3 after two before scoring three runs in the third and three more in the fourth to lock up the victory.
Anniston Powell went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Casey Cantwell 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Shaylin Stinger 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, Natalie Quintero 1-for-3 with a run scored, Marishka Smith 1-for-3 with a run scored, Madison Joyner 1-for-3 and Brinley Miller walked and scored a run.
Earlier in the tourney Lyons opened up with a 16-1 win over Dublin and a very exciting 5-4 victory over Vidalia.
Vidalia scored four runs in the first to take a 4-0 lead and then Lyons scored five runs in the fifth to win the game. Brinley Miller drove in the tying and game-winning run with a hit. Casey Cantwell was the winning pitcher.
The All-Stars also played well in the Lyons Youth Tournament. In the bracket they beat Bacon County 9-1 and in the championship game they lost to Bacon by one single run 11-10.

Shaylin Stringer is a left-handed pitcher for the Lyons Midget Girls (11-12 years old) softball team and in her 2 1/2 inning no-hit game against Evans County- in the Lyons Youth Tournament- she recorded all nine outs on strikeouts as her team roared to a 14-0 win.
In the first inning Shaylin struck out the first two batters, than hit one and ended the frame with a K. In the second she recorded two called strike three’s and a swing K. In the third she started with a strikeout looking and then followed with a swinging strikeout. An error and a walk put two runners on base and then she ended her fine performance with a swinging strikeout.
Lyons scored four runs in the first inning and 10 more in the second. Casey Cantwell went 2-for-2, Emerson Powell 2-for-3 and Laura Zamorano 1-for-2.
