Fire up the pitching machines- the Fleas and Mites take over the Lyons Youth Tourney and both home teams score 20 or more in victories

In the second and final week of the 57th Lyons Youth Tournament the younger age groups take over and that mean no live pitching. Instead you plug in the pitching machines and the emphasis turns to hitting and defense. There are no walks and the action is non-stop. Swing the stick on offense and see how many runs you can score. Then you play defense and see if you can make the plays and maybe record a three-up, three down.

On Monday the Lyons Flea Girls (7 and 8 years old) opened up with an exciting 20-19 win over Swainsboro. Meanwhile, the Lyons Mite Boys (9-10 years old) smashed Swainsboro 23-5.

The Lyons offense scored four runs in the first inning, 15 in the second and four more in the third and final frame. Lyons stroked 20 hits including two triples and one double.

Nicholas Carroll went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored, Deon Moore 3-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored, Hayden Johnson 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Alex Quintero 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored, Windsor 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Brody Benton 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Grayson Fulmer 1-for-3, Clayton 1-for-3 with a run scored, Lauton 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Ross 1-for-3 with a runs scored.

On day two of the tourney the Mite Boys lost to Wayne County 11-1 and the Flea Girls lost to Wayne 15-0 and then they came back and beat Jeff Davis 14-6.
