In other Region 2 action Bacon County beat Vidalia 6-3 in Alma and Swainsboro scored 12 in the fifth and run-ruled Bryan County 17-7 at Swainsboro. Jeff Davis leads the region at 8-1, Bacon is second at 8-4 and Toombs County and Vidaila are tied for third with 7-4 records.
In the early frames the Bulldogs left runners on first and second base in the first inning and the bases loaded in the second. Chase Musselman singled and Kodi Cortez walked in the first and Bryce Deloach, Alex Gordy and Bryson Stanley all singled off righty Garrison Miles in the second.
Meanwhile, in the first inning JD’s Garrett Taylor reached on an infield hit and scored on a one-out double by Colby Marchant. The Dawgs ended that frame with a double play ball induced by right-handed sophomore Chase Musselman on a liner to Deloach at third. Bryce threw to second base for the second out. In the second inning Braydon Creech singled in a run with one down and the Jackets loaded the bases with two outs. A fly ball to center meant both teams left the bases juiced in the second.
Miles retired seven Bulldogs in a row until Stanley reached on an error to lead off the fifth, but he was eliminated in a double play started by Miles.
In the sixth the Bulldogs put together another threat and loaded the bases on a single by Kortez, an infield hit by Dalton Lynn and a single by Chandler Lynn. However, a grounder to second base ended that opportunity.
Jeff Davis scored a third run in the bottom of the fifth on a second RBI double by Marchant and the Yellow Jackets scored their final run on an interference call in the sixth. A ball was hit to Musselman, who was playing second with Dalton Lynn pitching, and there was a collision between Chase and the base runner. On the play the run scored and after head coach Derek James talked to both umpires the interference ruling was made.
Defensively, senior catcher Cole Graham threw out two base runners in the fourth. First he caught a Jacket off second base and threw to second baseman Dalton Lynn for the tag out and then with two down a JD runner tried to steal second and Cole gunned him down with a throw to shortstop Brock Harrison.
