The Toombs County Bulldog junior varsity baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of wild pitches to break a 3-all tie and then they yielded an unearned run in the top of the seventh giving them a 5-4 win over Swainsboro on a chilly afternoon and evening at Jacky Jones Field in Lyons.
Swainsboro took a 2-1 lead in the top of the first inning by scoring an earned and an unearned run. Foster Jones was hit by a pitch and scored a run the bottom of the first. With two down in the top of the second the Tigers scored on a triple and a single to take a 3-1 lead.
The Bulldogs scored their second run in the fourth when Alex Gordy reached on an error and scored on a single by Bennie Jernigan (1-for-2 with a walk). In the fifth Gray Stephens (2-for-3) smashed his second double of the day and scored to tie the game at 3-all.
TCHS took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Landon Gupton and Jernigan each walked and scored on a wild pitch to push the Bulldog lead to 5-3. Swainsboro scored a two-out run in the seventh on an error to cut the Dawg lead to 5-4.
At the plate Bryson Stanley went 1-for-2 with a walk. Winning pitcher Landon Hutcheson threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks. Alex Gordy pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and did not allow a hit or an earned run while striking out two Tigers and walking two. Gordy earned a save.
