No deficit was too big in a non-region home game against 6A Coffee for the battling Toombs County Bulldogs. Early in the contest they trailed by four runs, but then they scored four to tie it up. With two outs and nobody on base in the bottom of the eighth the Dawgs trailed 11-9 and that is when they began their thrilling comeback, scoring three runs to win 12-11 on a wild pitch. The two-out rally began when number eight hitter Chase Musselman walked on four pitches and then Alex Gordy singled to center field on a 2-1 pitch. That brought up the top of the Toombs County order and every time they hit as a group the Bulldogs scored.
The game could have ended when Chandler Lynn struck out on an 0-2 pitch. However, the ball got away from the catcher and Lynn reached first loading the bases. Brock Harrison stepped to the plate having already hit two doubles and on a 2-2 pitch he smacked the ball to the shortstop. The ball took a bad bounce and Brock reached on an infield hit scoring Mussleman to cut the lead to 11-10.
Cole Graham worked the count to 3-1 and then for the second time he was hit by a pitch which scored pinch runner Kodi Cortez to tie the game. Bryce Deloach took a pitch out of the zone and then the second pitch to him bounced to the right of home plate and back to the fence allowing Chandler Lynn to score the game-winning run from third base with out a play at the plate.
After a three-up, three-down top of the first executed by starting pitcher Trey Cloud, the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. Harrison doubled with one out and Graham singled. Coffee made two errors and Dalton Lynn drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the second the Bulldogs got the first two outs easily and then three straight walks loaded the bases. Logan Dale and Wes Lott each singled in a pair of runs as the Trojans scored six times. Coffee added one more run in the top of the third to build up a 7-3 lead.
The Bulldogs came back in the bottom of the third inning and scored four times to tie the game at 7-all. Dalton Lynn doubled in a pair of runs and Cloud singled in one.
On the mound Brandon Dennis took over and pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed an earned run and Graham followed and worked the final five innings and yielded three earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk.
Harrison doubled in two runs in the bottom of the fourth to put Toombs County back on top 9-7. However, in the top of the fifth Coffee rallied and tied the game at 9 each with a two run frame and it could have been worse had the Bulldogs not turned a 6-4-3 double play.
