Ricardo Santana becomes Toombs County’s 1st 3-time state champion

For the third straight Saturday Toombs County senior Ricardo Santana (132 pounds) defeated Fitzgerald’s Chance Miller 7-1 in a first place match meaning for the third straight year Santana is a GHSA State Champion. Ricardo is Toombs County’s first three-time state champ. Bryan Benton won four state championships for the Dawgs and Derrick MIncey, Bradley Benton and Demery Hawkins each won two.

Two other Bulldogs wrestled for state championships in the Macon Centreplex. Jose Balderos (106) pounds was defeated by Chattooga’s Griffin Jarrett 15-0 and Rolando Tinoco (285 pounds) lost to Luis Medina (Chattooga) 6-0.

Cruz Arredondo (113 pounds) edged Spencer’s Malik Hardy 9-8 to finish third. Martin Santana (126 pounds) pinned Shane Martin five seconds into the third period and he finished fifth. Devante Willis (220 pounds) knocked off Chase Flemming 9-3 and he also finished fifth.

The Bulldogs finished fourth in the team standings.
