Coming off their only loss of the season (39-0 at Claxton), the Toombs County Middle School 6th Grade Bullpups rallied from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter and they defeated Bacon 26-25 by scoring the winning touchdown and extra point with just 30 seconds remaining in the game. The young Pups are 5-1.
“Words would be hard to describe the game we had Thursday,” head coach John McDonald said. “We had a lot of kids out and had to do some scheming offensively and defensively. We were down 25 – 13 in the fourth quarter at close to the four-minute mark. We scored to go six down. We held them and got the ball back on offense and tried to hurry up because only had like 2:50 left. We threw a interception to give them the ball back. We used our timeouts to get the clock down to 1:21. It was third down and they fumbled and we recovered. On the second play of the drive JuJu Cutler threw a deep ball to Jordan Jones and he took it to the house to tie it up at 25. Cutler ran in the extra point in to go up 26-25. We had 30 second to go and we held them off to win the game.”
“Composure and team unity won the game. The kids did great when their backs were against the wall and we never gave up. It’s always great to see kids rewarded by doing the right things, never giving up, and sticking together,” McDonald added.
The 6th Grade Bullpups will play a home game on Thursday, October 25 at 6 p.m.
