Beasley tries to stop the Mobile BayBears 8-game home losing streak

On July 25th Jeremy Beasley pitched seven innings of one-hit ball (the first 5 2/3 were scoreless) to help lead the Mobile BayBears to a 1-0 win- at Mississippi- stopping a franchise record 12-game losing streak. In his next start, on July 30th, his task was to halt Mobile’s eight-game home losing streak. The BayBears played a pair of games on this Monday. They lost a suspended nine-inning game to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 9-5 and then in the regularly schedule game, which was whittled down to seven innings, Beasley was the starting pitcher and even if he matched his start at Mississippi he would not have been the winning pitcher as the BayBears were held to three hits in a 5-0 loss.

Jeremy threw 4 1/3 innings allowing six hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts and three walks. The loss dropped his Southern League record to 2-3 with a 3.29 ERA.

What is the worst way to start a game for a team that is struggling? With an error. On Jeremy’s fifth pitch of the game second baseman Riley Unroe misplayed a grounder. That runner moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Monte Harrison’s double to right. That run was unearned. A bunt down the first baseline forced Beasley to go to the ground trying to make a play, but Brian Miller reached on an infield hit and Harrison moved to third base. John Norwood walked on a 3-1 pitch and then Brian Schales grounded out to second base scoring an earned run.

Jeremy Beasley strikes out a .452 hitter

Beasley’s first strikeout victim was second round draft choice Justin Twine. Since being promoted from the Advanced A Florida State League to Southern League, Twine has been hitting .452 and he is on a nine-game hitting streak. Beasley struck him out on a 3-2 pitch and then ended the first inning with a ground out to first base.

Jeremy’s second inning opened with a ground out to second base, Chris Diaz singled to right and stole second. However, Diaz was left in scoring position as Beasley wrapped up the frame with a fly ball to left field and a grounder to short.

The Jumbo Shrimp scored a run in the third inning to increase their lead to 3-0. Miller led off with a walk, but was thrown out at second on an attempted steal. John Norwood doubled to left and moved to third on a wild pitch. Brian Schales hit a sac fly to score Norwood. Twine singled and then Beasley got the third out on a ground ball to first base.

Jeremy Beasley dominates the Jumbo Shrimp in the 4th and strikes out Sahrif Othman looking

It took Jeremy 12 pitches to throw a three-up, three-down fourth inning. Eight of those tosses were to Sharif Othman and he was called out looking at a 3-2 pitch. A pop up to second and a fly ball to right ended Beasley’s easiest inning of the night.

In the fifth Monte Harrison reached on an infield hit to deep short. Miller flied out to left, Harrison stole his 23rd base of the season and then Beasley walked Norwood and that is when the BayBears took Jeremy out of the game and went to the bullpen. Ralston Cash, who played at Lakeview Academy in Cornelia, Georgia, walked a batter and gave up a RBI single. That earned run scored was credited to Beasley.

Jeremy tossed two more full scoreless innings. This season 70-of-his-93 full innings have been shutout frames- that’s 75.3% and for his pro career it is 76.7% (95-of-124).
