After opening up his Double A Southern League career pitching on the road at Pensacola, Florida and Jackson, Mississippi. Jeremy Beasley got his first chance to start a game on the mound at Hank Aaron Stadium-named after the Mobile, Alabama native. Jeremy is the second former Toombs County Bulldog to play in that stadium as a Mobile BayBear. Vince Faison was a BayBear outfielder in 2002-03.

Beasley threw six innings and allowed three earned runs off five hits and two walks. Jeremy struck out five batters and took the loss as the Chattanooga Lookouts (Minnesota Twins affiliate) won 9-2. Beasley is 1-2 in the Southern League with a 3.94 ERA. He has struck ot 14 and walked four in 16 innings.
Jeremy opened the game with a efficient nine-pitch first inning which featured a ground out, a three-pitch strikeout of Brent Rooker and a one-pitch fly ball.
He started the second inning with a strikeout and then gave up a double, to right, to left-handed hitting Mitchell Kranson. It took Jeremy only seven pitched to end that scoring threat- a grounder and a liner, both to short, sent the game to the bottom of the second still scoreless. There was a power outage at the stadium and there was delay before they were able to resume the game in the bottom of the second.
The third inning started with a single and a 5-4-3 double play. So, two down for the the one and two hitters in the Lookouts’ lineup. Zander Wiel, a big leadoff hitter at 6-3 and 232 pounds, jumped on a 0-1 pitch and hit it 407 feet over the left field fence. The sixth of the season and 39th pro homer for the former Vanderbilt Commodore. Next Rooker, who was also born in Tennessee, came to the plate and the former Mississippi State Bulldog pulled a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence. Rooker (6-3, 215) is now second in the Southern League with 17 homers, one behind the two leaders.
Jeremy walked a batter and then ended the top of the third with a pop up to first base. So, it was 2-0 Chattanooga after the back-to-back homers.
Beasley had a quiet to of the fourth. After a ground out to first, he hit a batter and then struck out Jimmy Kerrigan on three pitches and then induced a fly ball to center on a 3-1 pitch to end the inning.
Number nine hitter Jordan Gore, a .300 pro career hitter from Coastal Carolina’s NCAA National Championship team in 2016, led off the fifth with a single. Wiel flied out to right and then Jeremy threw two wild pitches moving the runner to third base. He walked Rooker on a 3-1 pitch and then Luis Arraez hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 3-0 Lookouts. A pop up to second base ended the inning with a runner at second base.
For the first time, as a BayBear, Jeremy threw a sixth inning and it went down three-up, three-down. Kranson flied out to center. Catcher Brian Navarreto struck out on three pitches and Beasley got Kerrigan to swing and miss on a 2-2 pitch.
Jeremy tossed four more full scoreless innings. This season 61-of-his-82 full innings have been shutout frames- that’s 74.9% and for his pro career it is 76.1% (86-of-113).
