Beasley stretches out and pitches five innings

In the longest outing of his professional career, Jeremy Beasley started and pitched five solid innings allowing five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Unfortunately, he yielded a pair of first inning runs and took the loss as his Burlington Bees dropped a quick two-hour and twenty-seven minute game to Bowling Green 2-1. Beasley’s record falls to 0-2 while his ERA rose very slightly from 2.70 to 2.84.

Jeremy’s WHIP- walks and hits per innings pitched- is 1.05 which is the lowest on his team for pitchers who have thrown more than three innings this season and if he had tossed one more inning he would be in the top 10 in that statistical category in the Class A Midwest League.

Beasley has struck out 16 batters and walked only four. Midwest League teams are batting .229 against him. Right-handed hitters at a clip of just .205 and lefties at .258.

Four of the five innings which Jeremy pitched were scoreless frames on this 77 degree Sunday in Iowa. For the season 14-of-his-19 innings have been zero innings and for or his career 39-of-his-50 full innings have been scoreless.

The first inning has been the toughest inning for Beasley in his four starts this season. In three of the starts he has yielded one run in the first and of course two against Bowling Green. Five of the six earned runs tallied against Jeremy have been scored in the first inning. He has been lights out after that allowing just a second inning run in his first start of the season.

After recording the first out of the game on a ground out to short, Beasley allowed a single and a walk and then was called for a balk. A sacrifice fly scored the first Bowling Green run and a two-out triple the second. Jeremy ended the inning with a strikeout swinging.

In the third and fourth innings the leadoff hitter reached on a single and then a walk and both times Jeremy induced double play balls. In the third inning shortstop Leonardo Rivas started a DP with a behind the back flip to the second baseman. In the fourth Rivas caught a liner and doubled up the runner at first.

In the second inning he walked the leadoff hitter and then locked down on the Hot Rods with a grounder, a strikeout and a pop up and in his final inning Jeremy retired Bowling Green three-up, three-down on a strikeout, a ground out and a fly ball.
