Last year in the opening round of the GHSA State Playoffs the Screven County Gamecocks beat the Toombs County Bulldogs with a handful of big plays. Gamecock quarterback Armani Bunbury threw four touchdown passes for 28, 29. 40 and 75-yards. In a rematch in the second round, back in Sylvania, Bunbury, now a senior, didn’t equal those numbers through the air, but he did toss a 22-yard pass to Tyquan Johnson and he did help his team convert on numerous third down situations. Instead of hitting on the big play the Gamecocks sustained long drives building up a 34-7 lead prior to fourth quarter rally by the Dawgs. 12-0 Screven advances to the Elite with a 34-20 victory- the Gamecocks closest game so far this season. Toombs County’s best season since 2008 ends with a 10-2 record.
Screven County built up it’s lead with touchdown drives of 75, 80, 85 and 73-yards.
