The Toombs County Bulldogs were making big plays in their 44-6 home Region 2 victory over the Metter Tigers. The Bulldogs scored three first quarter touchdowns in a span of just two minutes and fifteen seconds. They scored four touchdowns on the ground, one through the air and one on defense. Four of the TD’s covered more than 35-yards.

The Bulldogs are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the region. Vidalia shutout Swainsboro 14-0 on the road and the Indians are 4-3 and 4-1 in the region. The two rivals are tied for second place in the region, behind Benedictine, and they play each other on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Buck Cravey Field to see which team will play for second place on the last night of the regular season.

The Bulldog defense opened the game with a three and out stop giving the offense a short field. Demetrius Owens, who opened last years Metter game with an 85-yard kickoff return, finished a 41-yard drive with a 12-yard TD run. Rig Tinoco kicked the PAT to give TCHS a 7-0 lead with 7:58 remaining in the first quarter.
On their second possession quarterback Dalton McBride threw a short pass to Nykwan Coleman and the wide receiver ran down the home sideline for a 59-yard touchdown. A second Tinoco PAT made it 14-0 with 5:55 left on the first quarter clock.
After the Tinoco kickoff, Metter quarterback Larry Gibson attempted a pass. Jaquail Boyd leaped into the air and deflected the ball which was intercepted by linebacker Will Fuller. The senior took a hit, but bounced off of it and then ran down the sideline and into the south end zone on a play which covered 39-yards. McBride ran in a two-point conversion to increase the Dawg lead to 22-0 with 5:43 to play in the first quarter.
Owens scored two more touchdowns in the second quarter. The first on a 19-yard run with 11:27 to play and the second on a 38-yard run with 3:48 to go in the half. McBride threw a pass to Coleman for two points after the first TD and Tinoco booted the extra point after the second one to give the Dawgs a 37-0 lead at half.
TCHS scored one touchdown in the second half on a 50-yard run by Keshawn Morgan. His longest run of the season netted his 10th TD of his senior season.
The game was played with a running clock in the fourth quarter and with 5:37 to play in the game Metter’s Jabarie Simmons scored on a run to end the Bulldogs bid to earn their first shutout of the season.

First Touchdown- 5 plays, 41-yards- The Bulldog defense opened the game with a dominating three and out stop giving them a short field after a short punt to the Metter 41. McBride ran for 4 yards and he threw to Coleman for 17 and a first down. Morgan ran for 8-yards and after an incomplete pass Owens surged in to the end zone from 12-yards out for his first offensive touchdown of his career.
Second Touchdown- 1 play, 59-yards- The Dawg defense yielded 8 yards the second time Metter had the ball and after the punt McBride, on the seek of his 18th birthday, threw a short pass to Coleman and the wide receiver caught the ball and ran down the Bulldog sideline for a 59-yard TD.
Third Touchdown- The Bulldogs scored a defensive touchdown. Metter quarterback Larry Gibson threw a first down pass which was deflected at the line of scrimmage by Boyd and Fuller intercepted it. He took a hit, but kept his balance and then ran the Bulldog sideline 39-yards for a TD.
Fourth Touchdown 4 plays, 42-yards– Coleman recovered a Metter fumble at the Tiger 42. McBride ran for 3-yards and Morgan for 4 to end the first quarter. The Bulldogs were penalized 10-yards for holding. On 3rd down and 11 McBride scrambled and completed a pass to Chandler Lynn for 24-yards and a first down. Owens ran the ball in from 19-yards out to end the drive and.
Fifth Touchdown- 2 plays, 45-yards- This quick drive featured two running plays- a 6-yard run by Morgan and a 39-yard TD run by Owens.
Sixth Touchdown- 2 plays, 44-yards- Morgan ran for 5-yards and then Owens took over and ran 39-yards down the Bulldog sideline into the north end zone for his third TD of the night on just three carries.
