Jamar Smith starts his first Division 1 game

Jamar Smith (#45) carries the UTEP pickaxe into the Sun Bowl

Not only did Jamar Smith start his first Division 1 game in the UTEP Miners’s first home game of the season against Rice, but he also had the honor of carrying the Miner pickaxe into the Sun Bowl.  In a match up of two teams coming off loses to Top 25 teams the Rice Owls defeated UTEP 31-14.  Jamar Smith Page

Jamar made four total tackles from his middle linebacker position- two solo tackles and two assists. He also had a big hit on a short throw. The UTEP color analyst said that Jamar, “pasted him and put him into the ground.”

Smith was elevated to the starting Mike linebacker due to Alvin Jones having to sit out the first half due to a targeting call in the Oklahoma game.

Jamar season totals through two games include nine total tackles- seven solo’s and two assists.

2nd and 9 at UTEP44 GLAESMANN, Sam pass complete to STEWART, Samuel for 3 yards to the UTEP41 (SMITH, Jamar).

Fourth Quarter
