Beasley’s no-hit streak ends at 11 1/3 innings on an infield hit

Jeremy Beasley never pitched a no-hitter in high school or college. He did throw a one-hitter for the Toombs County Bulldogs at Bleckley County in the opening round of the GHSA State Playoffs in 2014 and he also tossed a one-hitter for Darton College, at East Georgia, in 2016. Jeremy’s Page

On the professional level Beasley pitched way more than a no-hitter for two different Los Angeles Angels Rookie League teams. In the Arizona League he threw 5 2/3 innings of no-hit ball before being promoted to the Orem Owlz where he reeled off 5 2/3 innings without allowing a hit before his amazing streak ended at 11 1/3 innings on an infield hit.

Research yielded no answer on whether Jeremy had set a Minor League record for consecutive innings without allowing a hit. In the Major Leagues Johnny Van Meer threw back-to-back no-hitters in 1938.

The base hit occurred with two outs in the top of the ninth after Beasley had retired the first five batters which he had faced including two by strikeouts. Pitching against a lefty, Andy Sugilio, Beasley, a righthander,  fell behind in the count. He threw a fast ball on the outside corner, for a strike, to make it 3-2. Suqilio, who was hitting .321, hit a shot which Jeremy deflected. The ball ricocheted to shortstop Leonardo Rivas and his throw to first base was just a step or two shy of retiring the hitter. Beasley was lifted from the game after the hit and he was replaced by a left-hander who retired a lefty to end the inning.

Beasley had faced 36 consecutive batters without allowing a hit. He still has one streak going. Jeremy has not allowed a run of any kind in his last 10 1/3 innings.

Jeremy entered the home game with his Owlz trailing 3-2. Orem tied Billings by scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth. The game went to extra innings and in 11 Billings won 4-3.
